Fellow BM's,

:Chokdee:

I first flew with Thai direct from Heathrow to BKK in May 2009, spanking new Airbus and the flight was brialliant, really good seat pitch, indervitual entertainment LCD in seat back and the service was second to none! I have to fly into Gatwick (live off shore) to catch my onward international flight to BKK so last November I decided to fly with Emerites out of Gatwick on a brand new 777 to Dubai and then on the massive A380 to BKK. The flight was excellient and the cabin service was spot on, entertaiment system amazing etc. For my April trip this year decided to fly direct again which means a coach trip to Heathrow and an overnight stay in a hotel. I booked with Thai and the flight was in a rather ancient looking Boing 747 400, no seat back entertainment system or aircon, seat pitch was not good and the majority of interior of the aircraft looked rather shabby (scrapped edges, tears in the furnishings etc) but the cabin service was good! Am just wondering what are the experiances of other BM's who have used Thai?

I always prefer the direct flight if possible but I have booked my next Nov trip with Emerites departing Gatwick (£618), all the direct flights from Heathrow were approx £150/200 more!

i used thi air last time i went to bkk was a old plane but i like the direct flight, am going from heathrow on 28th may with thi again only cost £541 for the flight

i fly thai 30th june till 13th july £520.i agree planes very old but good food and drink last time.

I flew with Thai a year ago and thought their service was very good. Flew out of LHR on an old 747 - 400, but flew back from BKK in an Airbus A340. They even put me in Business Class at no extra charge.

Last visit I used EVA and will do so again in October. My March flight was £440 and my flight in October will be £494 (Thai were quoting £682).

I like EVA and they do tend to be cheaper.

Cheers

TIPS.

When booking emirates do it online then u get 20% more miles for online booking.

You can view the schedueled flights too so you can pick the cheapest one.

currently cheapist price is 495. for uk to thailand... from birmingham to bangkok.

If u use the codes UKHSBC1 or UKBARC1 to get a further 10% discount when booking using a hsbc or barcleys debit card.

Also you can prebook your seats(go for a bulkhead row) prebook meals, and sign up to skywards to get extra bonuses and access to the emirates VIP lounges.

The Thai peasantclass is sub-par these days due to the lack of personal entertainment - they where top notch some 15 years ago and haven't changed since. Unfortunatly the competition has evolved plenty since Thais heyday!

With that being said I have to admit I always fly Thai for numerous reasons 1. Direct flight 10 h 20min 2. It beats the budget alternatives by far anyway 3. Lowseason the tickets don't cost more than €550-600 4. I got silverstatus on my Royal Orchid card soon to be gold 5. I got a friend in Thai passenger service who always see to that I am first in the upgrade list for businessclass 6. I always end up in Premium or businessclass :GoldenSmile1: and in there it's a whole different experience.......1 one white russian please!

I've never flown anything but ANA from the US. Thai seems to be more expensive for some reason. ANA service is great. Good food and friendly Attendents. (Pretty too)

The cost out of LAX is prohibitive on Thai once you factor in the flight from Washington DC to LAX. I flew Thai two times out of New York and had a great experience on both trips. Premium economy was very good and actually a good deal. Now they have stopped flying the JFK-BKK route so I go on either ANA or Korean, although I do like ANA better than Korean. If Thai starts flying out of JFK again I will be using them.

hi,

i always fly thai airways, yes on some, well most flights its the old 747 400 but on some its the new airbus, the service can be a bit lack lustre at times but you are never turned down for drinks snacks etc, just go up to the little cabin where they serve from.

my main reason is the royal orchid milage club,i have a gold card gives me 40 kg of check in bags

entrance to the lounge for me and a guest.

priorty check in.

it also only takes one return flight to get their silver card,10 kg of extra checkin bags.

and freebies, last years birthday award was free return business class upgrade, this year 50% off a mileage ticket.free business class upgrades every 50,000 miles,

and also as someone else said get on at heathrow off at bangkok,no chance of any delays or prblems in between.

i always book thru west east travel . com, they always have promotion tickets or sale tickets, just make sure to tell them you want a full mileage ticket if you collect the miles, usually £30 extra.full mileage ticket is usually about £540.it is kinda sickning to see the ticket is about £260 and the rest is tax thou.

if i really cant get thai i use austrian or swiss or lufthanser, part of same star alliance group and same extras, havent had to for a long while thou

The one good thing about Thai in economy is the biggest seat pitch in its class with no AVOD boxes under the seat in front.

This is why Thai business class is always full reducing the service for people who have actually paid the business class fare. Other airlines are a better bet for business travellers.

true, even worse is the Thai Air staff themselves sitting in Biz class drinking wine thinking their shit does not stink.

I pretty much fly exclusively with Thai mainly because of price and convenience (only full service airline flying Melbourne to Bangkok direct 2 flights a day).

They mainly use 777's on this route with an A340 occasionally making an appearance.

The 777's have full personal in flight entertainment systems which are superb at keeping you busy. Having said that they arent the most reliable and ive been on 2 flights where they werent working.

Crew are pleasant and efficient and some of the women are pretty good looking. You have to question how good thier eye sight is as after chatting to one of them on a flight to Melbourne she gave me her phone number and email address!!!

Food (and i'm a fat bastard!!) is always prepared to a high standard, tasty and filling. If you get peckish and most people are snoozing ask em for a snack and you should get some sandwiches or noodles.

When it comes to delays they are pretty pathetic. Got delayed out of Bangkok late last year due to in flight entertainment systems not working. 4 hour delay and when we finally departed the systen still wasnt working. During the delay there were very few announcements made, no food, drink vouchers provided, no blankets pillows for children until a woman broke down in tears and someone finally got a couple of blankets from the aircraft, no phone cards, etc etc. When it was time to board they didnt do it by seat number so it became a very messy free for all. Very very average.

The one thing i have noticed over the last year and a bit is that they seem to be getting tighter with the booze. Less drinks runs, smaller measures etc. Could be a cost saving exercise.

On the plus side they very lax with your checked in luggage out of Bangkok so you often get away with lots more than you should. Same goes for hand luggage.

Service on board is good but Singapore still beats em hands down.

All in all i'll keep flying with them. If you shop around and get a good price they are hard to beat for the money.

i agree thai airways is a joke use old 747s and no inflight entertainment,i rather pay abit more and use emirates airlines, good choice of movies and get to fly on the new a380..

I like thiair, direct flight, less chance of your bags going missing when you dont have to change to another flight

I have flown with Thai Airways several times, mostly out of necessity rather than choice. Their planes from LHR are old and both I flew on had a single TV in the aisle. I have always prefered EVA when flying direct, they are reasonable, great fleet of planes and the staff are helpful. British Airways are stupidly expensive, i have flown with them three or four times back when their prices were reasonable, they don't offer anything different to EVA.

I surprise to me was Jet Airways, the planes were brilliant, staff friendly and very comfortable. Mumbai isn't the nicest place but you're only there for 2 hours. I would advise anyone to fly Jet to BKK.
