In Pattaya Now But Computer Won't Charge

The adapter I bought at Best Buy in the US is not charging my computer here in Pattaya, even though I was assured it would work. At any rate, can someone tell me what I should get here and where I can get it? I have Dell Inspirion. I keep getting a message about my computer needing AWC 65. It is strange that my computer light goes on when I have plugged in, but it just won't charge.

At to Tucom you will find what you're looking for.

That's really weird, every laptop I've brought from the US has worked fine in Thailand. I've never needed any special adapter, nearly all recent laptops some with a power brick rated for 110 or 240v input. What are you using to charge it? Something other than the normal power brick?

What does your computer's regular power brick say on it? Somewhere on it's label it should say something like "input 110-240v 50-60Hz", if it does say this, then you should be able to use it just fine in Thailand, no special adapters needed, just plug it right into the wall. If it only says "input 110v 60Hz" then definitely don't plug it in (or if you already did, its fried now).

Also, what is this "AWC 65" message you mentioned? Where does this show up and what exactly does it say?

As Benny10 posted above, you could just take it to Tukcom and have them sort it out for you (probably just sell you a new power brick). But based on the short info you posted, it sounds like BestBuy might have sold you some adapter you might not need, and maybe that's your problem.

I ended up buying an adapter for 100 baht at the hotel I'm staying at, one-sixth the cost of what I paid at Best Buy. At first, my computer was telling me that it was plugged in but not charging. Some how, it did start to charge after a few hours. I don't know exactly what was going on. The lesson here is that an unsophisticated Thai adapter works while the Best Buy adapter didn't.

If you have a US power cord you don't need an adapter, it should just plug right in

Ive got a Dell Inspiron 600m and a XPS M1210 and both have worked just fine by plugging them in without adapters. Never had a problem.

Just use the same plug that came with them and plugged them in.
