The great INSURANCE HUNT for Uk travellers

xerive

Recommended Posts

If anyone knows of an insurance carrier that will offer insurance without the "essential travel" clauses that nullify all the insurance docs I have seen.

Please post here so all Uk'ers can get insurance.

Thanks.

fuck insurance! just dont take your expensive camera gear and have access to a couple of grand in the highly unlikely event you are hospitalised or need to by a flight from cambodia or somewhere. if you are killed then you are fucked anyway :Billiards1:

O you who turn the wheel and look to windward, Consider Phlebas, who was once handsome and tall as you.

I phoned postoffice insurance and they said basically everything is covered except for flight cancellations i.e. medical, bags etc. I think this may end up being the same for a lot of companies but the govt. warning is blanket.

quite right juggy - if you need insurance and don't have it, you are in a world of trouble - possibly financially crippling you for life.

"As of April 2008 we have our own bespoke insurance policy, provided by Travel & General, which will cover you for all of our trips. This insurance is available for anyone up to the age of 75-years-old (after which additional quotes may be needed), covers horse riding, mountain walking, trekking, white-water rafting and all other activities we offer as part of our tours and, most importantly, will cover you even if you travel to a region advised against by the FCO.

Please note this insurance policy is only available to UK residents."

got a 12 month backpacker/expat insurance policy with this company that i decided to go with after much research on the net.........cost was £232 and got back £150 in compensation for missing my flight due to the volcano.........it also covers any medical expenses that may occur due to a motorcycle accident providing the bike u are riding is less than 125cc....single trip insurance is cheaper than a round of drinks so dont take the chance.....even walkng in the street is a risk here especially when tanked up

I lookes at Wild Frontiers, they will insure for travel in countries against FCO advice, only applies to UK/Ire residents.

The cover fpr a single trip was £75 with a £40 premium for the add on for travel to dodgy places £115 in total.

Actually i looked at it again and it said £110, maybe the £5 was for the fee for payment by credid card, ant way not a bad price for peace of mind.

The restriction has been lifted a bit now so should be OK, I am thinking of getting this insurance for my trip in July cos even if the situation is stable it could worsen and a lot of insurance companies will do anything to avoid paying.

Cheers Mick
