Medical insurance in Pattaya

Recommended Posts

Hey guys , I am due in Pattaya in June but my insurance company have told me they cannot insure me for a visit to Thailand whilst the Uk Home Office is advising emergency travel only.

Having had two previous stays in hospital in Pattaya I do not want to be there without insurance cover.

I broke my ankle once ( stepped on a metal grate and it collapsed) and also had my appendix removed so I know how any mishaps can ruin your trip.

Can I get insured in Pattaya? Can anyone reccomend a company?

Cheers

check on the bangkok post website as it was in the paper about 2 weeks ago that the Thai Goverment were insuring every visitor upto $10,000 US whilst here on holiday, it seemed to be a blanket plan that if anything happened you would be covered.

Full details I do not have but its worth checking

Also BUPA give cover locally here (about 15,000bt for a year) but it may only be for residents, not 100% sure

Thanks blueboy, I found this but it only says "Riot" insurance

1) Visa fee exemption for foreign tourists

2) Helping state agencies hold seminars and field trips in the country to boost domestic spending

3) Cutting the electricity consumption guarantee fund for hotel operators

4) Reduced aircraft landing and parking fees

5) Providing free-of-charge riot protection insurance worth US$10,000 for each foreign tourist, and

6) Allowing business operators who organise domestic seminars, training courses and tourist destination trips for employees to deduct the cost for tax purposes.

I had looked into this before I was able to confirm my US insurer would cover me in the LoS. I had found this website, which lists insurers in Thailand. The first in the list is specifically a travel medical insurance co. - as to which is legit / better I can't advise.

http://www.thaiwebsites.com/insurance.asp

I did learn that I was covered for everything but helicopter evacuation. Only traveling to Bangkok, Pattaya and Koh Chang, I decided I would risk the lack of chopper rescue ; - )

This has been highlighted in other threads but I will do it again as i think it is important. This insurance appears to be only for medical care and inconveniences directly associated with the riots. It is not a substitute for travel insurance.

Scumbag, that is a very important distinction. I wonder how many tourists who cant get insurance because of the civil unrest will still come thinking they are covered as per their travel insurance policy for all medical/hospital expenses.
