Egyptair or Turkish Airlines

anybody flew to Bangkok with Egyptair or Turkish Airlines before? (amsterdam - Cairo/Istanbul - bangkok) They have pretty cheap offers at the moment, but I'm a bit worried about the service and safety of the planes. I know turkish Airlines sponsor FC Barcelona now and have a lot of commercials worldwide (including the George Clooney one) so I guess the standard must be pretty good. Not too sure about the Egyptair one...

Trust me, it's paradise. This is where the hungry come to feed.

For mine is a generation that circles the globe and searches for something we haven't tried before.

So never refuse an invitation, never resist the unfamiliar, never fail to be polite and never outstay the welcome.

Just keep your mind open and suck in the experience. And if it hurts, you know what? It's probably worth it.

i have flew twice with Turkish Airlines and they have been great. always on time,

even though i just avoided missin the plane back the 1st time, anyway that was

my stupid fault.

i flew last July for about € 670 , just was lookin at flight this evenin for this July,

best ( for Turkish Airlines ) was about € 1300 !! bit of a concern

still no rush to book yet.

dunno if air travel prices have shot up in the last week, due to airlines

losing so much with Volcanic Ash thingy ?

both are fine...turkish are a very good airline now...attempting to promote istanbul as another major hub...never any delays...if you get a cheap price go with them...also consider finnair via helsinki

Emirates still the best tho imho

cheers for the info, looks like I might try the Turkish airlines one, can fly for under 600 euro, and the flight times suit me.

I flew last year ( June ) with turkish airlines for the only time

in my opinion the plane was a little aged looked tired seats could have been better in comfort, meals were not all that, did land on time

lost my luggage ( forgot to load it in istanbul ) but did bring to my hotel 36 hours later

nightmare landing after travelling 18 hours inc layover time then 2 hours by taxi to my loom arriving at mid day thankfully time to shop for some new clothes and toiletries etc other wise screwed

they gave me £30 ( 1500 baht ) for my inconveinece at the airport on arrival

i rang and complained the service desk for turkish airlines at the airport they were understanding but didnt want to know telling me to tell the check desk when i return i may get an upgrade upgrade my arse they knew nothing didnt want to know and the sevice desk closed

i emailed and contacted turkish airlines back here ( from home in england ) guess what

thats right nothing got done no emails replied to

but mine might be an isolated case

the flight was cheap though

both transit airports are modern but istanbul is surely better

same holds true for the planes. turkish is better than egypt but for 100-200 US price difference you might like to consider egypt. egypt flies a little aged 777. turkish brand new airbus and also brandnew 777. Turkish has the best value incl. vast onboard entertainment set .

check your booking class before booking to get full milage credit. the connecting times in both cases were ok.

i have done both airlines.

I flew Turkish last year, flight had good connection times but started off an hour late!!

Asked if i would make my connection and was told all planes were running late into and out of the airport at Istanbul and was told the conection would be fine and everyone was in same situation,

Arrived at Istanbul with around 30mins to spare b4 flight was leaving went str8 to transfer desk to be told gate was closed!! no matter what was said they didnt give a fuck. and just said have to get the next flight!! (only run 1 a day)

Had 24hrs stuck in istanbul.

Now had to argue for about an hour. finally got them to agree to a hotel and breakfast/dinner thrown in, was told to go to the Turkish desk to get transport. Only thing is you need a visa to get out the airport!! another 20-30 dollars ( had no turkish/dollars!)

so another argument as i didnt even want to be there let alone buy a visa, with much persistance they finally agreed to pay for the visa and we left airport after few hours hard work.

The hotel we stayed in was fine i must say and i did have a day in istanbul which didnt matter to me as i was going to thailand for 3 months+, had i been on a 10 day/2 week hol then that could have really pissed me off!

All in all the flight was fine but once we arrived late was just hassle after hassle trying to get only what you should be entitled to when stranded and not your fault.

Yes cheap ticket but in future would rather pay the bit extra as the attitude tho it was their fault was shocking.

your money your choice im sure many have travelled with out problem. but for me once bitten twice shy!!

I was working in Egypt and used to fly Egyptair regularly from Cairo to Bangkok.

No problems, fly everyday at around 10.20pm. No grog, but 9 hrs straight through.

Arab girls on the plane are easy on the eye too (hope I don't get Fatwaad for that one)

Don't know what you want, but I always wanted to get here ASAP!!!.

I used Egyptair 2 times and I didn't get any problems. Very serious company of Star Alliance. Good staff, good meal, good seats. I recommend it, it's very affordable.

Thai-Turkish code share boost Europe link

THE NATION December 27, 2011 1:00 am

A code-share agreement between Thai Airways International and Turkish Airlines is expected to help boost traffic for both carriers on the Australia-Thailand-Europe route.

Before the agreement, about 2,000-2,500 passengers a year from Australia stopped over at Istanbul and flew with Turkish Airlines into European coun-tries. The THAI-Turkish deal is expected to boost the number of travellers from four airports in Australia to Europe via Istanbul to 10,000 this year and to 30,000 per year in the future.

The code-sharing agreement took effect on July 15 and the first flight under the arrangement was on September 12.

Under the agreement, Turkish Airlines operates a code-share flight between Bangkok and Istanbul, a destination THAI has no plans to add to its network. For its part, THAI operates code-share flights from Bangkok to Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney.

Temel Kotil, chief executive officer of Turkish Airlines, said Bangkok would become its regional hub in Southeast Asia while Istanbul would have a higher presence for travellers flying from Asia and Australia to Europe.

"The agreement will help us gain a lot more passengers from Australia from any carriers. It offers potential to add frequencies between Bangkok and Istanbul," he said.

THAI president Piyasvasti Amranand said the agreement would help Thai Airways reduce operating costs for operations in Europe.

The company has no plans to serve Istanbul, but will still gain business from the European market.

He added THAI had revised its strategic plans for the coming year by shifting its focus to Asian markets.

"We will increase capacity [by adding more flights] in Asia and lower it in Europe by using smaller aircraft," he said.

The code sharing with Turkish Airlines is part of THAI's plans prepared for 2012.

The arrangement was suspended briefly during the flood crisis but has been restarted, Piyasvasti said.
