May 25th - Political situation in Patts

Featured Replies

Sorry to be asking questions that have been asked but I'm really concerned. I finally managed to find a 2 week window and was planning to come to Patts. Folks at ground-zero: Is it safe to fly into Bangkok around end of May? I have no problems skipping Bangkok but have the political protests had any effect in Pattaya?

business as normal here my friend, come down and enjoy

Things in BKK may get a bit dicey, but unless your going to protest or photograph them, then you and hte rest of the 6 million people who arn't involved will be fine.

These things seem to totaly avoid pattaya

Update :

Pattaya TV news reported today 22/4 : Yellow shirts in Pattaya have started demonstration against the red shirt, the next 7 days.

Things might change!

Ah ... that doesn't sound too encouraging. But I guess things won't turn violent unless the army gets involved, right?

I flew in on tuesday and the airport was very quiet (volcano eruption didnt help I imagine). Just going about my normal day to day routine here and if it wasnt for the tv and newspaper reporting I wouldnt know anything else was different. The heat is more of a worry than the riots at the moment in pattaya. it could all change of course if the army does stop issuing warnings and do something, just get updates on here from people in town.

If you hire a car or have transport booked from the airport then you usually go in the opposite direction to the town centre when heading for Pattaya. Is there anything happening around the airport that we should be aware of ?

It would be nice to see reports here to keep us uptodate before booking tickets for the next few weeks. What about the other areas of Thailand like Phuket ? Any trouble there ?

Just read a news item that people in Bangkok are fearing a Civil war now that a new group has taken to the streets, the multi-colored shirts. However, the ministry of defense says this stand-off is going to end very soon. Don't know what to believe.

If I knew what was gonna happen on the 24th MAY. I'd be finding out what the winning lotto numbers are.

i wasn't planning a trip but when i saw may was at $1,034 tax included i booked it

small areas in BKK keep away, a few fools going there and wanna be film makers, leave the Thai Politics to the Thais, dont get involved, in Pattaya nothing at all so off the Plane in a Taxi or bus and have fun in the Pattaya Sun

Just flew in on the 29th, then straight to Pattaya. Have never seen the airport so quite. Even though it was 1:30a, it is usually much much busier. It was the quickest I've ever got my baggage. Only a hand full of immigration booths open and no lines there as well. The toll road to Pattaya was deserted.

Just been in contact with my LT GF who is in Patts and she says everything is normal no sign of problems her daughter who is a student in BKK told her same same there as well. Am thinking of having a quick trip back to Patts if airfares drop in price!

I just came back from a short stroll around Soi Buakhow and I saw some dude with a RED SHIRT! (On a closer look I noticed that he was a fan of Manchester United :001_Thank_You5: ).

Current situation in Pattaya: Everything's fine. Pattaya seems totally unaffected from the issues in Bangkok. :)

Just on BBC that the Reds have agreed to join the Reconcilliation Process.

Current situation in Pats appears that the bar girl party has the majority and us mongers are the minority. But I am not complaining :GoldenSmile1:
