Would you trade your life in your current country to move to Pattaya?

Would you trade your life in your current country to move to Pattaya? If Yes, explain your reasons why you haven't moved already. If No, explain why not. I asked this question because I'm back in the U.S. depressed as hell with thoughts of me moving there, but I wanted to hear thoughts of your emotions on moving there as well.

Yeah of course I wanted to move there... Stumbling block is my last daughter 15 yrs old is still living with me and cannot bear the thought of leaving her to her Mother who is having a drink problems.. Gotta make sure my daughter reached her adult age or well able to look after herself, plus I have two older daughters too who lived with their boyfriend... When everything is sorted then zoom to Pattaya for the rest of my life.. Looked like 2015 is the date of my emigrate to Pattaya...

Patts is a great place to visit, but I could not live there - it is just too hot for me.

Somebody once posted on here that living in Patts was plan B for most ex-pats after plan A failed.

I have pondered this question ever since I came back. I really thought reality would set in after a couple of weeks. But the more I deal with every day life here in the US I wonder when I can do it. I do not have the advantage of being younger and knowing what I know now. So these are the steps I am taking.

1. I immediately decided what I do not need in my life that costs money. Eating out, keeping the old truck, doing life the old fashioned way.

2. I have written off dating. Only costs money and if I really need it I can find a P4P here.

3. Dumping as much money as I can into retirement. I am almost 40, so if I am smart and have some good luck I hope in 15 years. See next.

4. Going back to school for my degree and continue onto a advanced degree. If I cannot be in Thailand or equivalent than I will find a job closer to a paradise.

I know this is a huge undertaking. I do have a couple of things on my side though. I have never really been a party person and always been smart with my money (except Thailand, which I do not regret). I am hoping by the time I decide to make the move I will be able to live off a decent wage overseas. I would rather have life issues in a foreign country than here any day of the week.

I am a fat kid in a sweet shop, I just cannot choose and want it all.

Yes I would move to Thailand in a heartbeat!

My reasons for not doing so are as follows:

1. I make a pretty good living in the states and I want to build up some more cash.

2. My parents are elderly and we are close.

3. I have two sisters who are battling cancer.

It would be a pure dream to have young beautiful women in my day too day life. I'm also in the process of losing 60 pounds and I think it would be a lot easier in Pattaya.

Take care DBJOHN

Flying Solo, you and I appear to be thinking quite a bit alike!

I'm having a slow year financially at work, but am socking away every penny that I can. I have cut out my prior P$P activities here, realizing how bad a "deal" it is compared to the lovely ladies in LOS. I've even considered changing jobs to work in a field that would be more amenable to landing a job in Thailand, and seriously think I will go in that direction if my current position ever went away (or if I hit it big enough to stop working for a few years). My Rosetta Stone course in basic Thai is gathering dust (just like the ones for Korean, mandarin and Tagalog)

As to the OP, what's keeping me here?

A few basic issues: I do not have ENOUGH money to live in Pattaya without working and do not currently have the ability (language/skills-wise) to land any type of employment there (plus, employment there could preclude the mongering that would lead me there in the first place). That and my 74 year old Mother are about all that's keeping me here in the U.S.

I'm a writer, don't have much family left and hate my country. There's obviously absolutely nothing that could hold me back. :001_Thank_You5:

would i move in an ideal world, erm yes of course.

i am unfortunate enough to be english and live in the disgrace of a country they call england so i certainly have no loyalty to my country of birth or the scum who run it and the scum who are over running the place and sending it into meltdown.

my reasons for not being able to get the hell out of shitland and move to paradise are as follows.

1. i have a 9 year old son to think about

2. i dont have enough money yet however in 9 years i will pick up a pension from the royal navy and my house will be all paid for.

needless to say that i am planning to move there in 9 years ( i know a lot could happen between now and then) but thats the plan. rent out my house, pick up my pension and off i go. out of shitty england and in to paradise...

Move to Thailand maybe??

Pattaya NO..

While I love Pattaya, I don't think I could handle it full time, without becoming broke, aside from the fact that the girls(are a blast), its not the nicest city( I don't like cities anyway)...

As far as Thailand goes I plan on exploring more next trip, ie. North Thailand..

And I want to see more of SE Asia before I move.

And family(older relatives) is the other primary reason I am not over there now exploring..

As well as needing more information on permanent(long term) visas.

I think that I can maintain a similar lifestyle to what I have in the states, as I age I have discovered that I have much less interest in expensive cars 5000sq ft houses etc.

So I am seriously contemplating a move such as this but need more time and information before it happens...

I choose to live part time in Thailand (Bangkok mostly) I like visiting Pattaya on occasion for a change of pace, but Bangkok provides more of my daily interests...When I say part time, I split my time pretty much evenly between Guam, Bangkok, and to some extent Honolulu. I lived here (Thailand) when I was quite young, Also worked here several times both in and out of the military ( I am retired from the U.S. Coast Guard)...From Guam to Bangkok is really not to much effort for me. On any given day, I can catch(from Guam) a Philipine Air flt at 0600 in the morning, be in Manila at 0800(manila time), back on the connecting flt at 1000 (manila time), and arrive in Bangkok around half past noon or so...40 min later I am usually in my apartment having lunch (or snoozing). Now when I'm in Honolulu, Its definately a longer flt (15hrs or so)...One of the major reasons for me staying in the military was to get the retirement, travel, medical bennies etc... So I guese I am making the most out of living in several locations, All of which are cool places to live in my opinion! :GoldenSmile1:

Cheers

Reg, every time I see one of your posts I have to do a double take and check that I have not written it. As you know I feel the same way about what has become of our country and listening to the politicians who are on TV now trying convince us to vote for them turns my stomach. Right now I wish I was over there away from these sickening self absorbed, deceitful charlatans and their fawning flunkeys kidding the gullible, apathetic British public into giving them another five years to make an even bigger mess of the UK than they have managed thus far.

I will be out there soon for a while but even then we are reminded of our incompetent govt every time we change our money up. I also have family ties which prevent me making a permanent move. If it were not for this I would be out there in a shot. All you would need to worry about would be your room rental and water and electricity if applicable, no council tax, no parking fines, hugely expensive public transport, no speeding fines for going 5 mph over the limit, no rubbish and recycling regulations, very little fear of crime, no smoking bans, no politically correct bullshit, no bureaucratic jobsworths, no insurance bills, no astronomical gas bills, no TV licence, no fishing licence, not having to fund our country's failed multicultural experiment, not having to pay huge taxes on everything we buy and all the other multitude of headaches that contribute to make our lives such a misery.

Added bonuses to living in Pattaya are the abundance of friendly, affordable working girls, nice weather, bars every few yards and a wide selection of cheap eateries. What more can fellow ask for?

I would like to spend extended periods of time there but not live there full time. I think the novelty would wear off pretty damn quickly plus England in the summer time is a great place to be. I have a great life here in the UK and Thailand breaks just add a bit of spice :GoldenSmile1:.

Maybe I'll think about moving in 30 odd years to retire... but not just yet..

yes you could be right there, the novelty would probably wear off quicly if one lived there all the time, but i would not mind giving it a go anyway, lol

i could quite happily spend about 5 or 6 months a year in Thailand, but i don't fancy moving there or anywhere really, full time, although i live in Glasgow i have a second home on the isle of Skye, and in the summer time there really is no better place in the world to be, i would miss that to much, to leave it behind.

I used to live and work in Phuket and now i am back in France.

I will move to Thailand again only if i win the lotery or when i am old and have a good retirement money (i am 30 yo)

I am quite happy to live and work in France and to go to Thailand on holiday only.

A bad move to Thailand will make you a grumpy expat very quickly!
