Mods, can the board be set to automatically down size pics to an acceptable size,

or else reject them and send a message to the poster to down size the pics.

I have a high speed connection and a fast computer, but some of the downloaded pics

still take an eternity to load.

I feel sorry for any member who has a slow connection.

Same Q a couple of days ago and a Mod(DP) replied that the file size limit currently allows VDO clips, though not many use it.

 

I have a very slow connection here and when someone posts one or more big ones it makes that whole page a no go area for me.

There needs to be seperate areas/buttons for uploading pics and vids where the file size of pics is limited. I can't see this as being very hard to implement. Admins/Mods?

I'm not really familiar with how this boards code is written, but as there is a way to determine if an avatar is of the right size, I would guess that the same could be used for other images.

How big a job this is I don't really know, and wonder if it is a needed. I prefer having big pictures at the same time as I understand that with a slow connection they can be a nightmare.

 

I've tried resizing my own pics to 800pix on the long side in most cases. But in at least one case I've gone up to 1200.

 

But in the end I think the reason to why ppl do not resize is because they are lazy.

Microsoft powertoys has image resizer tool with which you can batch process all your images. Works well too. However it was designed for XP, no idea if later versions of windows support it.

This is IMO the best FREE photo resizer you can get, easy to use after the first couple of times and it will make BM's very happy - as you say, people are lazy!

While there are some small programs that can be easily used to resize photos, I don't like them. They do resize pictures, but normally I'd say you should do a few things more.

 

If all you ever want to do is resize sure thing. if you want to spend an extra 30 secs per photo and get a substantial improvement on them, go for a Photoshop or Gimp.

 

I'll try and write something up about how to improve pictures fast. But might not post it tonight

If I could put this post up in lights for everyone to see I would... forget MS Powertoys, forget fastone... Shrink Pic is the one to get... WHY? Well it runs in your systray and as soon as you select a file to upload to the forum (you can also have it working for e-mail also) it resizes it automatically to your desired size.... You set it up once and once its done you never need to bother about resizing pics every again because it does it all for you without a single mouse click.... It certainly gets 10/10 from me.
