Can someone clear up for me what is the difference (if any) between a hotel and a Guesthouse? Reading the forums and visiting many of the web sites I can't figure out what the difference is.

Some are more basic but most as we do have 24 hour security cams, some hotels with security can be a + but also a - as sometimes the security guard or reception staff drops you in it by telling your BF what you get up to etc, some like more discretion.

As for more facilities not always so, we have in room safes, many hotels only have at reception, we have free wifi, many hotels do but often only strong enough to work in the reception area especially with the inconsistent connections here, we have TV & DVD player, most hotels dont have both.

Guesthouses tend to be more homely and atmospheric and as we do have many regulars as well as ex pats everyday who will know many things about Pattaya and will be keen to pass it on.

We do not have a pool which most hotels have of course.

Usually guesthouses are smaller but big hotels with many rooms in my experience dont have time for the guests as a guesthouse does.

Most hotels charge a guest fee where a Guesthouse mainly do not :05: and thay seem more guest friendly

Its nice to be important but more important to be nice

Thanks guys. I have my ticket to Hong Kong. Will be touring SE Asia. As soon as I figure out which days in Pattaya I'll choose my place to stay. Right now Canterbury Tales looks like the top of the list.
