Learning to drive

My GF has started driving lessons at 2250 baht for 12 hours. I am aware that you can just buy the driving licence, but I want her to be fully trained and legal. The idea was to get 40 hours learning from a professional and have her do the normal family runs for added experience, to get her fully confident and safe. Then I will teach her advanced driving.

Her dad took her out today, but I dont want her driving uninsured, does anyone know the RULES on getting her insured on her dads vehicle? She is already dealing with it, but I would also like to hear from someone else so I can ask the right questions.

is her dads car insured already ?

which insurance dose he have,1st class,2nd class,3rd class or just the basic govenment sticker ?

its basicly explained as fully comp 3rd party fire and theft and 3rd party,as in the uk

my insurance over here is on the car (stays with the car if i sell it)not me,anyone with a thai licence can get in and drive it and they are fully covered. 1st class insurance.you can drive it on a foriegn licence as long as that person has not been here for over 3 months,(thai law says you must get a thai licence then.) but they can decline to pay out for any damage that is caused to my car, fully covered still for damage to anyone else's car person or property thou.i was told each case will be looked at individually about paying out for the damage to my car on a foriegn licence.

tricky one to answer really, has she got her licence yet ? i have no idea how it works over here about insurance with no licence.

i paid for my mrs to get lessons, she had a drivers licence before but it had expired 2 years previous, she was taken round this course they had set up on a big piece of open land,4 hours a day for 3 days then had 2 days driving on the roads 5 hours each day,(driving with no licence to show if she was stopped.)driving schools must have some special exemption that allows them to take people on the roads as they have no form of provisional licence here.they then took her for her test.she was picked up at 5am by them that day due to so many people going for tests.the driving test is done on site round a course not on the open roads.sukhumvit bangkok that is.you also have to go to the office for your district here,we are in wattana bangkok so its sukhumvit 99 for us.

fairly basic test really.the eye tests are harder than the driving test its self.(i think thats why theres so many bad drivers over here)

when she got her new licence it was for 5 years again as they still had her details on the computer system.total cost was about 4000 baht but she paid the licence fee which was next to nothing

i know it gose on abit and its not all about insurance but it all helps
