cancellation policy

I am sure there will be one or two people that are having to cancel there hotel bookings due to the volcano eruption in Iceland.

 

I should have arrived Friday 16th April. I booked through AtSiam. I emailed them Thursday the 15Th April to say I was going to be late.... very late hehe. They replied Friday Morning offering a cancellation and full refund, no charge. My friend had booked through Agoda, and they charged him £25 for canceling.

 

Question: If you have had to cancel you reservation which company had you booked with and did they charge you for it. It seems a bit mean on there part when it is pretty obvious that the circumstance are beyond anyone's control, If I was charged, do they think I will be making future bookings with them. Not on your nelly!!

If you book through an agent (like Agoda), the cancellation policy should be laid out pretty clearly in your confirmation email. They'll vary anywhere from free if you give 24 hours notice to no cancellations (pay 100% of the booking no matter what). Especially for cases where there's a stiff cancellation policy, travel insurance is your friend, though travel insurance may not have helped in the volcano's case because most policies have a clause stating they're not liable for acts of God.
