What Outlet Do I Need For My Computer in LOS

I'll be leaving for LOS in the near future, and will be bringing my laptop. What must I get here in the US so I can plug my computer in when I hit Pattaya?

Also, I would like to buy a cellphone after arriving there. Do all the cellphones in Pattaya work with a SIM card that can be bought in 7/11? Also, how much is a relatively cheap cellphone? I won't be using it when I return to the US.

In regards to the laptop, just get a multi country power adaptor form a travel shop.

The best ones usually are compatible with 5 different regions.

On the phone situation, your best bet is to go to Tukcom on South Pattay road - just before Soi Buakhao.

2nd & 3rd levels sell phones & accessories of all types.

You can pick up a good phone for 2000 baht, obviously you can pay more depending on what you want.

Just make sure the phone is not locked to a network, but this should not be a problem.

You will also be able to get a sim from the same shop, I find 12 call ais thailand is a pretty good network. You can top up on credit at any 7/11.

Thanks for the info. I heard I could pick up a cheap cellphone for 600 at Tukcom. Is that correct?

As already mentioned, you can get what you need at TukCom. http://www.mypattaya.com/85tukcom.asp

As an alternative, you can go to WalMart/Target/Radio Shack/Best Buy/Fryes or the like and get an international power adapter package (about $10 at Fryes and maybe $15-20 at BB). The package will have adapters for almost any country.

Here are a couple of options:

The laptop power supply (aka the chunky block on the power cord) should automatically convert from 50-60 Hz and 110-220. As a result no power converter is necessary so you can plug it in the adapter and away you go. A surge suppressor power strip is optional but good to have and you can find one at TukCom or anywhere. Correct order is US cord to Thai adapter to wall. (or adapter to Thai power/surge strip to wall.)

**DO NOT PLUG US POWER STRIP INTO THAI PLUG ADAPTER!!**

That out of the way, onto the phone . . .

You can get a cheap used phone at several phone shacks around town or TukCom. If I'm lazy and staying on LK Metro or Soi Diana Inn area, there is a phone place directly across the street from the Areca Lodge. At worse, buying a used phone in LOS is maybe $15-20 for something basic.

(If you have an old cell phone from home laying around and uses a SIM card, bring it, get it unlocked and try the SIM. It will probably work or you can buy a throwaway phone at Target/Wal-Mart/7-11/RadioShack here in the states b4 you leave. The newer TracFone Motorola models or the T-Mobile throwaways should work after it's unlocked.)

Thanks. Where would I get a cellphone unlocked in Pattaya?

Actually, the phone shacks will unlock phone as well as set up the SIM card for you. There are several in TukCom (2nd floor I think) as well as the place I mentioned across from the Areca.
