Areca- Evergreen Wing

Featured Replies

Has anyone stayed at the new Evergreen tower at the Areca Lodge? I know that it just opened a few months ago. I am considering the super deluxe room. Is it worth 1700 baht? I noticed that you can book these rooms slightly cheaper through one of the hotel booking businesses. Any downside to using them instead of booking direct?

Thanks

"Is it worth 1700 baht?" : This depends on individual situations.

Check at Tripadvisor or google.

I just stayed there and had the Luxury room. Another addict had the super deluxe room, it really was the same set up as my room. Just a tad smaller as mine had a couch, that I never used. I enjoyed my stay and thought my room was overpriced, but the super deluxe would be worth it.

I am a fat kid in a sweet shop, I just cannot choose and want it all.

USUALLY, but not always, it is much easier to make changes to dates and room class and to get refunds if you book directly with the hotel. Book through an agency and it is usually difficult if not impossible to make changes close to the date.

It is better to light even one candle than to live in fear of the dark.

Last visit I booked a superior room direct with Areca, 1550 THB/night. When I got there I found that the desk is part of the sleeping platform, no chair in the room. That meant sitting on the platform, cross-legged I presume, to use the desk, no go for my stiff legs. Also, the bed is just a mattress on the platform, not my preference for non-sleeping activities. Finally the room's a bit dark, relatively small window.

I think Evergreen screwed up on the design of this room and they will never be that popular. I upgraded to a super deluxe, it was fine, small balcony. I think decent value, but not as good a value as their regular room.

Evergreen's a bit of a hike from the main hotel entrance. Sounds minor but two separate guests commented on this!

Finally, there's no wireless in this building. If you want to use laptop on the bed or (hard) couch bring a long cable or your own pocket wi-fi thing.

Clean, modern although the finish of the room is a little rough (typical of Thai construction!). No wifi in room, you have to go to the lobby to get wifi or to the front at Corona etc. It is a bit of a hassle to walk all the way to the back of the complex to get to evergreen, but it is the nicer of the three buildings. Great shower with good hot water and water pressure, nice and quiet and a little away from the action. Overall very pleasant to stay in but I would recommend the Super Deluxe room. I agree, the superior room is a little badly designed. Good block-out curtains for those times when you come home on sunrise. The restaurant downstairs is quite good and they do a good Pad Thai. I would consider staying there again.

Also breakfast ends at 10am so in my stay in Nov 2010 I only managed to catch it once.

I think most hotels do this on purpose since most also prepare warm breakfast dishes like pad thai on demand.

Nothing beats 110 THB buffet breakfast at Lek hotel that I think is available until 4pm.

There buffet dinner is 180 THB and starts already at 6pm.

When I think most hotels charge around 250 THB for a breakfast that can't compare in offer from Lek (with no silly time limit like 10am ahhh).

Nothing beats 110 THB buffet breakfast at Lek hotel...

Actually I think that the Lek has a pretty bad breakfast buffet. It is soundly beaten by the Diana Dragon (not the Diana Inn) and pretty much by the Apex also.

The Lek's evening buffet is worse. Both the Apex and the Diana Inn beat it.

All are within 5 mins walk.
