Pattaya Scam Alert

Featured Replies

Just to let all BM's there is currently a new scam operating.

A guy calling himself Mr Brian Bier is advertising a View Talay 6 condo for rent on ebay, both in UK and Germany.

He posts pictures and provides a Thai telephone number, books you in for your agreed dates and takes payment via paypal. He tells you his wife will meet you at the condo at an agreed time as he is working in Singapore.

Upon arrival at the condo, no one is there to meet you and the phone is switched off. Your money is gone.

A floor plan of the the building with the owners names is available at reception and it shows 'Mr Brian Bier' does not own a condo in the building.

Mr Bier's 'price' of 500 baht per night is compared to the real price of 700 baht per night, according to reception.

This scam has been reported this to ebay and paypal.

This post if purely to inform others on here.

The ebay link will probabaly show the item removed as this has been reported a few times by the scam victims.

Hope this helps as it is designed to do.

Sorry bro but you cannot post peoples personal emails and phone numbers on here. I have deleted those details.

I am not doubting you but we just dont know 100% and posting personal details is against forum rules.

make a report to paypal, simple.

Serious shit... Those people go to any lengths to con the innocent people.. Now I,m very wary to book the hotels or condos...

Just open a dispute with Paypal. He would need to prove that he indeed provided the room. If he can not show the evidence, you will be refunded the full amount by paypal.

There are three sides to every argument: your side, my side and the right side.

Thank God I'm an atheist.

What is Ebay link? you can also check his feedback and see if it is really a scam or something genuine went wrong.

He does not have to own any rooms but could be acting as an agent to rent out other peoples rooms, but it may indeed be a scam.

PS. If it is a scam, thats something new, have not heard of this one yet

That was my first thought. Someone couldn't pull this off too long, since negative feedback should prevent it from continuing. If someone is renting out a View Talay 6 condo at a strangely low 500B/night then alarm bells should be ringing too. What an odd scam.

  • 1 month later...

This guy is still scamming people. He advertised a MacBook Pro in Thaivisa saying he resided in Surin (many miles from BKK) and offered to send it to me if I paid 50% deposit. I asked for a copy of his passport and bank account details (which turned out to be Bangkok Bank) and sent the money by ATM I think you know the rest, no more replies to the phone number or emails! I have since found out he is supposedly in Pattaya and then I found this Forum. Although I have a copy of his passport (pretty sure fake) this is being looked into! I had spoken with him on the phone and his accent sounds German and passport also! We'll see! I will keep everyone posted in this Forum.

Let the buyer beware..... with all the reputable on-line booking agencies for rooms available, who in their right mind would buy a room on eBay - totally amazed anyone would do this? (scratches head)

Thanks for sharing mind you.

Propably for the same reason as another person who also happens to have 1 post and had purchased computer so happens to be from the same person.

If you ask me, this post is little trolly.

1. Payment made via Paypal, yet OP claims he lost money

2. Second poster claims to have paid via bank deposit, which again sounds trolly, considering its Thailand and he never seen the computer nor did he know the guy

Inspector Kuffki of the Soi...nice work sir :10of10Score:

First I'm not a trolly and reside in Bangkok. Secondly, I admit I didn't know the guy and asked for his passport and bank account! The passport matched his account which is currently in use! It's very difficult to get a bank account for a westerner without passport, work permit etc in Thailand so I paid a deposit. A report has been made and even if he goes back to Germany it will be followed up! He also said to me that he was living in Surin but I now find he is really in Pattaya. And I thought I was being smart! However, it appears he is not so smart giving me his passport photocopy which matched his Bangkok Bank account!

Not sure where you get your info from, BUT it takes me exactly 3.5 mins to open bank account in Thailand with nothing but passport.

You can be rest assured, he will not have any problems leaving or coming, because no one will care.

If police did care for 1 min, they would of already arrested him.

As much as its sad, it is not his fault but 100% yours.

This is why there are company's like paypal and others to make purchases like this, not just transfer money into some guys account.

All he needs is 100 idiots to transfer the money and he has enough to buy a condo and live a good life in Thailand.

This is not a rocket science but common sense, you do not transfer money to anyone unless

1. you know them well

2. know where to find them

3. have "back up" to recover the money, should anything go wrong.

This 3 rules apply in Western country's, in Thailand its beyond ridiculous not to apply same rules

I agree with you but he still needs his passport. Where do you get 'it's not his fault' from? Of course he is the conman, scammer and yes I had been an idiot. I spent years always warning people about these kind of scams and I'm a website developer and learn t so much from scammer emails etc! Sadly my wife and I had a very traumatic experience recently and my guard was down! I didn't practice what I preached or listen to my instincts and as you wrote; used to think people were idiots to fall for the scam until now! There are things that can be done and I will post this in time once finalized. Harsh words Kuffki! If you had gone through what myself and my wife had perhaps you would slightly adjust your perspective!

I do not know what you and your wife went through, but i am failing to see how your personal problem relates to your thinking about the money.

Not only that, since what you and your wife went through was that severe perhaps buying cheap price computer from a stranger(brand that never sells cheap) should not be on the list of things to do at that moment.

Seems you and OP have nothing else to say about anything else on this board but that.

PS. Any tourist can open bank account and use it from all over the world, without even having to be in the country

My personal problem doesn't relate to thinking about money but making very stupid mistakes! There are bargains to be sought and even with our experience I try to go on with life! And just because he conned me doesn't mean I am not able to take this further especially as I now have more info on him and his friend! Hey I just had a thought, as you seem to be writing so much in support of this chap perhaps it's is you!

This is one reason I don't like using paypal. At any rate, it should be easy enough to check someone like this out with the View Talay 6 people.

I now have more info on him and his friend! Hey I just had a thought, as you seem to be writing so much in support of this chap perhaps it's is you!

Since you have all the info about the man and friends, you should be able to know if its me or not me.

Yes bargains, so the fact that he was willing to post a computer out with only half the money, did not ring any bells for your either.

Mate, i think you should stop putting blame on things around you and start to blame yourself and yourself only.

PS. I also have bad news for you, you will never get any money back or cause any problems for the person. Police rarely interested in problem between 2 foreigners and have more things to do then worry about some foreigner not thinking or whatever excuse you like to have send money to another.

Should you make a large donation to some policeman to act on the matter. Seller will state that he/she only received half of the money and hence did not post it, or better yet makes a larger donation not to be bothered again.

Since all your accounts are true and you know all so much, perhaps would be a good idea to post around other forums, not just addicts. Not to mention since you bought it from Thaivisa, to post it on Thaivisa

If I recall I believe I had blamed myself! Myself only!

Kuffki, you are amazing! Unsympathetic, uncaring, and in full support of con men, liars and cheats! I now have a picture of you and your little Pattaya life! No disrespect to the decent Farangs there!

Of course I now understand this is the kind of answer I'd expect from a sweaty Pattaya sex tourist, blind from drinking too much Makhong, trying to sober up on his pc and I'd bet a bar girl in tow wearing a ring! However, of course you are perfect, know everything and never make mistakes ... while sober! Perhaps you can't remember the other 2 thirds of your life Mr. Perfect Kuffki! Hey, it's 3.00; shouldn't you be sitting at your local bar!

Nothing more to be written in response to your conceited 'I know all, never make mistakes' replies!

To everyone else here; there are things that can be done and Kuffki statements are totally wrong! I cannot and will not write it here yet but once everything has been finalized I will write on what can be done to fight back! Using the authorities and otherwise! I and many others sometimes make stupid mistakes but it doesn't mean you have to walk away with your tail between your legs! Kuffki seems to know a lot about Pattaya and getting away with crimes! Let me write later on what I know to counter his knowledge! LOL

A lively little thread which, without AndyBKK and kuffki would not have gone very far, as the OP, having joined to make this one post, has not signed in since.

It appears kuffki as written up to 40% posts on Bar-stool Banter in this site. My case stands! LOL :GoldenSmile1:

On a perspective of a bar stool author, going to the police may be futile if you are a tourist! I'll give more info on that later as it's not as difficult as kuffki seems to think! Wouldn't it also depend on ones standing in Thailand. The people over the years you have built relationships with and know well! And I don't mean a business card from a policeman! Of course, that would be quite difficult sitting on a bar stool!

As the old saying goes; it's not always what you know but who you know! Kuffki statement maybe right, from his bar-stool of course! I don't think so! Sorry, can't help the bar stool puns! :)

It's amazing how we got from the OP to here isn't it.....

What is also amazing, that the other "victim" also only has interest in 1 topic and 1 topic only. To make it little more amazing, even though he was"conned" as he claims on Thaivisa, yet he does not post there, but posts on addicts nor does he provide any evidence of an advert, any links or anything else.

As soon as below was posted, OP lost his interest and then another victim appeared, and funny enough out of thousands of members of different forums there appears to be 2 victims, who appear to make only 1 post on the one forum and one forum only

Sorry bro but you cannot post peoples personal emails and phone numbers on here. I have deleted those details.
