Who is the greatest player of all time...

Featured Replies

When Messi scored four goals last tuesday against Arsenal.. Many football people in the world argues who is the greatest player of all time.... I picked out Messi but then thought he did not win Argentina World Cup yet while Pele and Maradona did for their country .. Maradona also win the lowly Italian club Napoli the Italian League Title single hand, Messi is lucky to be helped with loads of Barcelona stars.. So I went for Maradona... Pity I didn't see much of Pele due shortage of TV at his times... I know there may be others than the three I put above that you thinks should be the greatest, put it down your choice here...

the greates player of all time.......most be Valentino.....

when it comes to woman....

but when it comes to sport/ soccer/ftboll.........well imo, there is only one..through history..Pele (Edison Arantes do Nascimento).., but in modern time(from 1975-now) i have to say Maradona(maybe J.Cruyff.. and before him george Best)..but after that....well i think Lional Messi is up there.

Lester Pigot was the best Jocky of all time on the flat IMO.

From the three listed it would have to be Pele, you need to discount anything that fat drug cheat ever did and the youngster hasn't really achieved anything on the International field to date. Four goals against a poor Arsenal side, don't define him as the greatest just yet.

For me Johan Cruyff was the best and the Dutch team of that time were great to watch. Being a Blackpool fan, my favourite ever player was Alan Suddick, he was doing the "Beckham benders" many years before he was even born.

george best could,nt compare with bobby charlton i used to go to old trafford a lot in the 60s,chalton did it on a world stage best did,nt.for me pele, maradona, rivalino.cruyff, best 2 defenders ever meldini, herrio, best goalkeeper banks, most talanted english man gazza.and yes alan suddick was a very talanted footballer,if i remenber correctly i think he was in the guiness book of records for keeping a ball up.i think he passed away last year.

Pele the greatest......probably - did it with a heavy ball.

Personally Cruyff and Best.

Aye, you are right.. Forgot about that.. Used to play heavy football myself in the seventies, real tough to dribble and cross... But that Pele was wizard on that...

the best players i have seen in my lifetime are ...

maradona and zidane...i will go for maradona being the better.

if messi continues to play like he is at the moment then i think he will be the greatest player that has ever lived

LIVE THE DREAM !!

Messi's performance against Arsenal was one of the best I've ever seen, no doubt about that, looked pretty ordinary in the first leg though.

It's such a tough question to answer, I would probably go for a young Maradonna. The best player that I ever saw play live, with my own two eyes was Thiery Henry, I used to love watching him off the ball as well, very clever player.

The best player ive ever seen in a game that i was at..Wayne rooney as a young boy for Everton against bolton the score was 0-0 he could of scored 8 by himself truly amazing footballer..but has to be Pele by a mile the man was a genius and was kicked all over the park every game he played..not like the nancy boys of today falling over like they bin took out by a snipers bullet at the slightest touch.

Wayne Rooney probably the greatest English/British player with George Best and Stanley Matthews in line ... Also Duncan Edwards of Man Utd who was killed in Munich crash, described by Sir Matt Busby, "the best palyer in the world".. I wish those footballers can play up to hundreds so that we can sit back and enjoy watching.. Pity footballers only had up to 15 years of football..

i believe he would beat them all :LMFAO: Brazil Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira

Nonsense!Pele wasnt the greatest at all.The only time he got kicked was in the 66 world cup-and he didnt want to know after that.He never played his club football anywhere but Brazil, where he was cosseted. He looked great in a great team, but Tostao,Jairzinho and Rivelino were every bit as good.

I saw Best Law and Charlton ,week in week out,so I know what great players are.Best took more stick in 1 match than Pele took all season.

The greatest ever was Maradonna,he virtually won a world cup on his own.Can you name any other member of the 86 world cup winning Argentinian team?? I Bet you can't.

Most Brits are prejudiced against him because of the "hand of God" goal, forgetting the 2nd goal he scored in that match-perhaps the greatest ever individual goal scored by any player.

Messi has the potential to eclipse Maradonna, and he has plenty of time to do it,but he needs to win a world cup first.

In random order- SIR Bobby Moore, Georgie Best and Pele. But then again I am biased!

for me its the king kenny dalgleish

agree messi needs to be the best at the world cup...thats how all greats are meassured

as for maradonna, that goal in 86 was magic :Circle_Sharks:

i know its only an opinion ...but....Rooney ????? my ass...bb....

being only in my early 20s I dont think I deserve to pick between pele or maradona, as I haven't watched any of their matches.

But yeah travis got a point. Pele was supported with a great supporting cast. While maradona was doing his own monologue.

Rooney prolly the 2nd best player in the world today, prolly the MOST effective player in the world. But I doubt he would be the best in the world. He wouldn't even come close to Zidane.

For me the best player (not about achievements, goals, stats) purely on his skills and grace and how he played is Zidane. He can control the ball like... no one. It was even said that he can use the puddle in the field to shorten his pass. If that's true.. HOLY FUCK!

But my favourite player is Ryan Giggs. I haven't see any other player that can transform form a speedy winger to someone that operate in the middle of the pitch like him, too bad he chose Wales over England. (Sure, great he is loyal and everything), but 1998 World Cup would be alot different with him in the English side.

Yes,a wonderful achievement, but the greatest player!WTF!. I presume youre a toffee blue1878,but dont be picking players just because they played for Everton.

An earlier poster picked Bobby Moore! Decent footballer agreed, but if Duncan Edwards had lived,Bobby Moore would never have got a game for England.

A few have said Wayne Rooney-a long way away yet.

What about Di Stefano and Puskas,Beckenbauer and Cruff,Platini, Eusebio and Van Basten.-you could make a case for them all.Zidane of course,as well.

But ,none of them can compare to Maradona IMO.

Maradona did it at club and country level,a great team player and a great individual player.Amost singlehandedly won a world cup for Argentina in '86 and took Napoli from obscurity to winning 2 scudettas and an Italian cup in 3 years. They even put a statue up to him in Naples! A lot of England supporters will never admit it,but IMO ,the greatest of all time.

I think favourite player is a different thing altogether.Your favourite player is your favourite player, for various reasons.

Perhaps my favourite of all time was Denis Law, European footballer of the year in '64.But I wouldn't put him in a world top 10.I would put George Best and Bobby Charlton in a World Best 10,even tho' I watched them all week in week out at Old Trafford in the 60's.Denis was a great goalscorer, rather than a great footballer.

I can understand you liking Giggsy-he's been a fantastic player, especially in the big games. His crossing still leaves a lot to be desired, even after all these years! Is he possibly the greatest ever WELSH player???
