Red shirt blood infected

Recommended Posts

The Mahidol University medical group disclosed that test results of blood collected from sites targeted by the blood-pouring stunts of the Red Shirt protesters in Bangkok were tainted with severe communicable diseases, including Hepatitis B and C as well as HIV/AIDS.

The medics also say they found traces of cattle and pigs' blood.

The medics expressed concern that people at the blood-pouring sites who had cuts might have been exposed to the tainted blood and thus be at risk of contracting the diseases.

Dr Somsak Lolekha, president of the Medical Council of Thailand, said that the symbolic blood-pouring protests will be raised in their ethics subcommittee meeting on April 8 to consider whether or not such blood pouring violates medical ethics.

10's of thousands donated blood. Pretty obvious that they would find diseases in there.

Mahidol (and probably this guy) are well known elitist supporters. I think Dr Wu would have given a very polarized report, equally biased but totally the opposite.

The blood taking on site was carried out by qualified doctors and nurses but who knows what could have been added later. It wouldn't surprise me if animal blood had been added.

Also, as Chuckwow says, as 1/104 in Thailand (source) are alleged to be infected by HIV its not surprising they found HIV is blood collected by thousands of people.

I have to say I thought the whole blood thing was silly and ill conceived at best, and at worst they should have known it would be spun against them at some point and that they lose more than they gained from it. That said, the entire last 3 years have not exactly be noticeable for "common sense" on either side.

Note : The HIV figures are for end of 2007 so not up to date. I heard a later survey says its fallen to 1/200 now.The later survey also suggested that sex workers are now in the lowest risk category due to heightened awareness and that students are now the highest risk group.

My views are very much with my missus.

He was elected legally, rather than the forced government in place, who lets face it are truely making a mess of the Thai economy. There was ZERO national debt when Thaksin was in power, it's not like that now!

the only way forward is to hold LEGAL and proper elections again.

As for the alleged charges against Thaksin ..... he needs to face them, there is every chance these are trumped up, but equally there is every chance they are real.

Whatever way, they need to get it sorted and an election is the only just and fair way.

Wha's like us?
