Many years ago I and several of my mates use to hire a boat and go fishing for the day which would include in the morning going fishing and then at lunch the boat captain would cook us the fish we caught and then in the afternoon he would take us off Koh Larn for swimming, The boat was not a speed boat but a big 2 storey wooden fishing boat, has anybody got any recoemndations of places that do fishing trips in Pattay ?

There is fishing and then there is fishing.

Really depends on what kind of fishes you are after. You won't catch a sailfish off the pier.

Here is a very good article on a fishing park in Pattaya:

Fishing Park

...and here on Game fishing in Pattaya:

Game Fishing

..other then that just go to the pier in Pattaya and join one of those

fishing trips that take you to the island they park the boat and fish.

are their reports from addicts that have actually done some offshore fishing in and around pattaya? or any where in the gulf of Thailand? i do a ton of fishing and any reports on places to fish and perhaps surf would be greatly appreciated. I have heard stories of a surfable wind swell occasionally hitting some of the islands in the gulf but i haven't seen any picture. My brother and i went fishing yesterday he caught this very nice halibut. Here is a link to the thread

Nice catch!

thanks we got one a few years ago, our buddy caught it, that was a little bigger it would have been an IGFA record on the 16 lb test... unfortunately we filleted it before the light bulb went on...alcohol a wonderful horrible thing.

Anyways yes ..dorado.. sailfish or something, to break up the monotony of a long trip in SEA

Plenty of Thai fishing boats at Bali Hai pier that will take you out for the day. Cost for the boat is 4-6,000 baht depending on destination. Includes boat, fishing gear and ice. BYO drinks and snacks, although they will cook up the fish you catch.

Las trip we went to Koh Kratai, long trip on a rough sea and all the girls got sick. If you are taking girls with you, pick up some motion sickness pills at the pharmacy before you go.

Check this site out for fishing out to sea. About 6000 baht for a 12 hour rent of a 2 decker boat with cooking/toilet facilities. Keep in mind the boats run old japanese diesel engines and don't go more than 8 knots! But they are safe. Bring your own food and drinks.

Been lucky one time out, 1 cobia, 1 king mackerel, 1 king fish, 1 barracuda, 1 queenfish and 1 more that escapes me. Also there is a fishing park off Sukhumvit rd. Just ask any of the songthaew drivers to take you. Here mostly fresh water fish but they get big...For sport this fishing park may be more fun with a fly rod.

i am not one for fishing, cant stand it to be honest (which is strange as my father filleted the damn things as a job for 40 years) but a one of the girls i met took me to a fishing park in pattaya and i thought it was great. basically its a load of tables and chairs etc arranged around a big pool. you can order drinks and food etc and there was a band playing. we used to buy a bottle of whisky and chill out. we would stay there for hours and hours. she would go fishing (like i said i hate it ) and she always caught something...20 minutes after catching a fish,it was all cooked up and on a plate in front of us. now thats what i call fresh fish. very cheap too. would recommend it fellas but if like me you are not into fishing, try and find a girl that is lol

Before i went to Pattaya i was also uninterested in fishing having tried unsuccessfully many times during my youth but after being talked into trying my luck fishing at Jomtien fishing park i discovered it can be a great way of passing the day when you need to get away from the hustles and hassles of Pattaya during the daytime. eating and drinking and actually catching fish for a change made for a pleasant day out and since that first visit i have returned many times. they have reduced the size of the lake at Jomtien so i have been told and the bungee has been relocated so i'm not sure if it has the same sort of vibe now with it being smaller. pity really, i had great times there, i remember Pritchit was the local guy that baited up for you and kept you in beer supplies, nice friendly guy!

i have posted a few photos of one of my visits there a few years ago, before it got smaller! there were quite a few of us there at that time on a break from the carny life in Asia, a Serb,a couple of Poles, a Scot, 2 English guys and a Welshman all fishing, drinking and having a good time. the locals seemed to enjoy the place too. There was a few Thai girls with us that day too but they were happy just eating and playing cards.

Went sea fishing once but the weather was just too hot and the reflection of the sea made it worse, think we needed a bigger boat!

Fishing can be boring but with the right company it can also be a great day.

hopefully i have resized these pictures so as not to cause delays in their loading. don't that just do your head in?
