I am trying to book roundtrip air for my GF, BKK to PDX. I am finding the cheapest flight prices around $1200. When I flew to Thailand from PDX last summer, the cost was $817. Have airfares increased that much, or is the cost higher when your original departure point is BKK? Any ideas on where to look for the best price? I have so far looked in the usual places, orbitz, cheap tickets, direct airline web sites, etc. If anybody has any ideas, please give me a head's up.

I am having trouble finding flights from IAH to BKK roundtrip for less than 1400.... Seems to flux alot.

I'm flying from Seattle on May 5th. I got a RT ticket SEA/BKK from EVA for about 870.00 USD.

A couple of ideas:

Check having her flying into SeaTac, and pickup her up there.

Look online at http://www.cheapoair.com/ for best values from EVA.

You may be stuck since you are looking at RT BKK/USA rather than the reverse.

good luck,

David G.

If you're not tied to one airline for your miles, try Kayak.com. Found em a bit cheaper than that, although November timeframe seems to be ideal.

We have noticed an upturn.

BKK - LHR always used to be about 20% cheaper than LHR-BKK on the same airlines.

Recent prices show this (nonsensical??) discount has pretty much disappeared.

Flying from Seattle to Bangkok on April 7th. Total cost $864USD. Flying EVA.

I noticed a new fee: $30USD for Overseas ticket purchase.

Keep looking, you should be able to get ticket for under $1000USD

Korea Air fare from LAX to BKK for Oct 2010 cost me $835.00 USD all inclusive R/T.

Thanks for the responses. So far the best fare I have found is $1159 on Delta and Thai. I wish I lived near a larger airport like LAX or SEA, as they tend to have more options and greater competition, driving the prices down somewhat. I do have a couple hundred thousand frequent flyer miles available in a couple of mileage accounts. I am going to try to utilize some of the miles, as the dates can be very flexible. I tend to try to save these for my flights for use on business or first class tickets or upgrades. MY GF is typical Thai, and tiny, so I think coach will not be to bad for her.

Yes, prices this year do seem higher. Previously, my ticket would be about $1,200USD round trip. This year, the best deal I could find was $1,400. I'd recommend booking through a travel agent that specializes in Thailand. They buy tickets in bulk and are almost always lower-priced than the internet.
