There Maybe A Way To Beat The 150 Baht ATM Fee

JASONTHAI

Recommended Posts

Guys I have been posting on a Korat forum regarding the 150 Baht ATM fee, I have 2 Nationwide cards, one I have in the UK and the other my step daughter has in LOS, she has only been charged the 150 baht fee twice in a year, yet when I am in Korat I use the same ATM's and get charged, first I thought is was because I was withdrawing more than she was but when I withdrawl the same amount I got charged, but a guy on the Korat forum states that if you followed the instructions in Thai you did not get charged but as soon as you input to use the English language they do you. So he memorised the instructions on the ATM and used it in Thai from then on without charge.

This could be true and it would make sense regarding why my step daughter does not get charged, have any of you guys tried it or could someone try it who's out in pattaya at the moment as this could be very good news for all of us :001_Thank_You5:

Cheers BigReg just make sure you don't let her know your pin number, you should enter this yourself, the last thing I want is a post about a BG withdrawing all the money from a farang account, I hope it works as this could be a early Xmas present for all of us, but I agree it does make a lot of sense

Jason, if you use the bank of Ayudhya or Aeon ATMs there is no charge for using a Nationwide debit card.

I think it may be worth 150 baht NOT to have a BG with me at the ATM! It's hard to claim that I only have 1500 baht when she helps me withdraw 10,000 baht! LOL

On a serious note, I hope this works -- could be a nice way to save a little money! Good luck!

In my experience taking a lady to the ATM normally costs me a hell of a lot more than 150 baht :)

If you can get help a lady you trust, or only withdraw a small sum, say 2000 baht. The risk shouldn't be so high. Beaware of hiding your pincode.

Cheers

Because the fee is ridiculously high

Get a Charles Schwab account and they refund all ATM fees.

I for one dont understand this.

I mean how many times do you guys go to the ATM during a 2-3 weeks holliday??

My self,i go 2 maybe 3 times a week,thats 300-450thb,so that means you are "loosing" about 600-1350thb.

I for one dont think that is much, knowing that your money stays safe on the account.

And further more, some guys that are complaining about a 150 thb withdrawal fee,can sit in a gogo bar, throwing ping pong balls at the girls of a value of 1000´s of baht during their stay.

Do you know if they charge a foreign transaction fee?

As I understand it, US banks charge a foreign transaction fee (typically $5) in addition to their own fee for non-affiliated ATM use + the other bank's fee.

If Schwab can help me avoid all of those fees, I may have to sign up!

Yea but if you come 4/5 times a year it adds up 5000 - 7000 baht is a lot of money to pay for ATM fee's for a year when you did not pay anything before

Agree with you about the ping pong balls, I rather put a 100 baht note around my cock with a rubber band and tell the girls who every can get it off with there mouth wins the money :GoldenSmile1:

Hi Matrix

I can see where your coming from but how many times a week you use the ATM's depends on what your daily budget is.

In july/August I will be in Pattaya for 20 nights/days. If I budget to spend 6000B a day I'll need about 120,000B. This means I'll have to make 12 withdrawals because my daily limit is 10,000B. So 12 withdrawals equal about 4 visits a week. So that would mean 1800B in withdrawal fees.

And if I budget for more than 6000B a day I'll be making more than 4 visits a week.

I've been told that if you have a visa debit card and go to one of the places that changes money or travellers cheques you don't get charged the 150 bt.

I know I never got charged when I used my credit card at those places before but I never had to use my visa debit card.

May be worth a try ?
