Health costs

My friends daughter recently had her appendix out.

On the doctors advice she went to the hospital and they agreed that the operation was needed.

As her daughter was in some great pain, she decided to go to a private hospital.

She said it would be far quicker then a government hospital

 

So two nights and the operation and its cost in the region of 35,000 bht.

 

Is this about right price for private health care in Thailand, as i have had no

experience of the Thai health service?

Far quicker and 2-3 x the price than in a government hospital.

Doesn't sounds expensive when you compare with private Hospitals though.

All hospitals have a price list for all kind of operations and care.

Not bad IMO.

600 dollars for surgery sounds more than reasonable to me !

Mother-in-Law fell and received a compound fracture of her ankle, she was taken to the public hospital given an xray and 2 panadol and told that she would be put on the surgeons list and should hopefully see him within 4 days and be operated on within 8 days.

 

We arranged over the phone to move her to a private hospital and the Lass headed up to Korat to take charge. She arrived as the new xrays were coming in, it was now 9pm, some 10hours+ after the accident. The orthopaedic surgeon was called and she was in the operating theatre an hour later. Two plates and 7 screws on either side of the multiple fracture and she was back in the room. Afterwards we moved her to Pattaya as she will invalided for 3 months, 1 month no weight on the leg at all, this to be followed by Physiotherapy until such time as the leg can bear some weight, estimated at another 4 week. Followed by crutches, then stick and hopefully then a full recovery.

 

Bill to date 70,000 Baht, beyond a village persons pocket book, yes! cheaper than UK/USA? without a doubt

Quick and proper health care is always worth the money if you can pay the bill. Be happy your daughter is getting well!
