thanks Expat, i personally prefer the Nirun Condo area, coz its a bit quiet, but not to far from somewhere to drink ect...i am not totally convinced i will be staying in Pattaya my whole time, i will be heading to Chiang Mai to have a look then back to BKK...but will no doubt spend some time in Patts to unwind...my circumstances have changed slightly since first putting this post on here, however going for three months hasnt changed...i would be only renting a bike while there...we will just wait and see what goes on when i step off that plane...and many thanks to all who have given me advice :GoldenSmile1:

Rocket i'm another ex Brizzy boy, I live here quite comfortably on 60,000ish a month, but I have a wife here and don't drink everyday of the week.

Do yourself a favour and don't bring to much cash with you, I bank with the Comm bank at home and have used their internet banking for many years, I use Siam Commercial Bank and their internet banking here and I transfer my A$ not baht, once a month, you get a much better rate on your money than bring cash, Comm bank charge $22 and SCB 200 baht and it's in my account here normally in less than 10 mins.

An Aussie mate of mine here from the Gold Coast banks with NAB and they will not transfer to Thailand. So best check with who you bank with if they will transfer to Thailand.

Easy to open a Kasikorn Bank account - I just gave them a mobile number, passport number and apartment details.

They don't charge any baht on receiving cash. I use Westpac - they have a $20 fee.

When you do the international $$ transfer you will need to know the Swift code of the bank. Any questions let us know, it's easy.

One of my friend wants to stay there and what the problem he was facing is proper housing expenditure that he needs to spend there and better living, he is very trendy kind of person and enjoys boozing around in pubs and clubs so, this place will be the best place for him to stay.

Thanks

Ditto, but I arrived here on a long stay Non Immigrant O Visa, just went into the SCB with my passport and opened an account, once I had done that, set up there internet banking, which you can do online now, before, you could start it online, but then you had to go to your branch and finish it off.

The whole thing was a piece of cake. By all means check it out, I went with SCB because they are one of the largest and oldest banks in Thailand and the fact that my ex GF banked with them, and there appears to be a whole lot more SCB ATM's around the place, need any help setting things up, PM me and I will gladly send you the information you need.

The most important thing is to get out of holiday party mode, otherwise you will smash your budget many times over.

Get a condo for Bht6-12k (with a kitchen), get an internet connection and may be even True satalite TV, then you won't mind staying in occassionally and you can eat in some nights. Then restrict your nights out 3 or 4 nights. It might sound a little boring but after a couple of months you will want a night or two off. Don't pay agogo BFs, get to know girls in all types of bars (and other places) and you will be surprised how many will give you their tel number and will come round after hours for 1000bht.
