Have we finally got a viable solution to the Bill Gates monopoly?

Sounds good and looks good, I will be watching this product with interest.

 

My main reservation will be I wonder how many bugs will need fixing.

 

I stay away from Gates products as much as possible, but you need some or you will

be alienated from the rest of the world.

 

I have been using Firefox, Thunderbird and Open office for for years.

 

What about software written to run on windows. Will it run on Chrome??

Very nice. I have used the Google Chrome web browser before and loved it. I am interested to see how the OS actually works out.

I have trouble to call it an OS, to me it's a direct boot to a web browser. I have it loaded on a flash drive at work and a little SSD on my home computer. It's fast and great for browsing. If that is all you do it's great, but it will not replace a real hardware accelerated OS.

 

On a side note, it's lightning fast. From a patriot 4gb thumb drive on a Q9550 with 8g of ram it boots in about 4 seconds. On my home machine with a I7-950 and 6gb ram booting from a 40gb intel x25 SSD it's about 1.5 seconds after the bios is done until there is a login screen.

 

I've run about the last 5 major builds and I'm impressed overall. I think when this matures I might finally buy a netbook. I do too much on a computer to have it be my sole OS but it is amazingly fast. Chrome under whatever OS is quick, Chromium coupled to a 18MBps DSL with an SSD behind it is BLAZING fast.
