Golf from the “Travellers Rest” 30th January

She Made It!

Made What? Who?”

Tewin Lamthong. She got her handicap down to nine.

Fergus has had a private bet with Tewin Lamthong (Poopay) for a long time.

If she managed to get her handicap in to single figures then he would give up smoking. Well she did just that after her thirty-eight point win at Phoenix on Thursday from ten down to nine. So stop he has. Not easy for fifty a day man.

I have recently been accused of having a weekly whinge.

Sorry no whinge this week but the reverse a bit of praise. The course was Khao Kheow who asked for us to restrict our player group to a maximum of forty players because of a very full field being booked on Saturday. It was also noticed that a great deal more marshals were to be seen on the course helping to keep things moving along smoothly.

Good move Khao Kheow. Congratulations.

As a footnote with the courses getting busy it is very important to sign up early if we are playing a course you like to avoid possible disappointment.

Monday the 25th at Greenwood. A great turnout so there was three divisions.

Division three saw Derek Lucas take the win with thirty-four points and was followed home by Bill Priestley with his thirty-three. Third was Joe Kowalczyk with thirty-one.

Division two was a win for martin Zimmerman with his thirty-five. Second and three back was Danny Whelan with thirty-two. Third was Mike Rushant at thirty-one.

Division one and the player who is off scratch Llew Matthews went two places better than his previous Monday outing and came in at the top with thirty-nine. Llew plays of -2 and played some excellent golf. Second was Ted Senior winning on the count back over Ted Lodge both at thirty-six.

Three two’s from Fergus Brennan, Mod Chaviraksa and George Robinson

Tuesday the 26th was a visit to Plutaluang. Have not been there in some time because reports indicated that it was not up to par. This seems to have put a few people off. Well it was there loss because contrary to the bad information the course was in very good condition and played well. Many good reports were heard from all who played.

Fergus Brennan was the top dog with his thirty-seven pointer after winning the count back over Bill Ostle with a one better score on the back nine. Third was Donald Pearson with a thirty-four also winning after count back over Howard Taylor

Three two’s from S. Mehta, Anne Hannigan and Howard Tyler.

January the 28th and back to Phoenix we went. Ocean and Mountain

The course was in excellent condition and played well as was apparent when you view the returned scores with all three divisions won with thirty-eights

Division Three saw a win for Bob Short with his thirty-eight he also had a two. Second Paula Byrne with thirty-seven and Alun Webber third with thirty-six.

Division Two was a win for Billy Ostle an thirty-eight. Second Mab Jiwa at thirty-seven and Mike Rushant thitd with thirty-six.

Division One was a win for that lady Tewin Lamthong and her thirty-eight. But second and third was decided on count back with both Brendan Moore and Mod Chaviraksa finding themselves on thirty-six. With Brendan edging it.

Six twos. Robert Andrews, Mod Chaviraksa, Mab Jiwa and Bob Short at the seventh and Mab Jiwa and Mike Rushant at the seventeenth.

Saturday the 30th January and off yet again to Khao Kheow

A very very good turnout for us yet again. We were restricted to an entry of forty players by the course but we still had three good divisions.

Good weather to start the day but this was to change. Rain came in at one stage for at least three holes and this affected some players it seems pegging back the scores a little as well.

In Division three Michael Moreton took third spot with thirty-two. Second went to Jack McNamara with thirty-three and the winner was David Gibson also with thirty-three but a better back nine than Jack.

Division two had Dean Rice at the top with thirty-four followed in by Mab Jiwa at thirty-three in third spot at thirty-two was Mike Rushant.

The winner of Division one was Jon lay with his thirty-three and second was Garry Blackborne with thirty-one. Third spot went to Tewin Lamthong with her thirty.

Only three two’s Niall Cronin, Liam Horgan and Mab Jiwa.
