EVA v BA Premium Economy

Recommended Posts

I usually fly EVA Elite class, but this year it's close to £900 for the dates I want. I noticed BA is £1000 for the same class. Has anyone flew with BA prem econ? Is it worth the extra £100 or would it be just the same as EVA.

My dates are 24th March to 14th April give or take a day or 2.

The exact prices I've got are EVA £874.41 & BA £1001.20 for the above dates.

BA cabin crew are about to vote on strike action, i would take the EVA option.

Not quite as free and easy with the drinks on EVA, but the cabin crew are better eye candy, IMHO.

good service, but i dont think they have upgraded the LHR to BKK planes to include a IFE system.

I normally fly eva but last may09 did the ba option , turned out to be a big mistake , the crew were rude every thing was to much trouble , seat controls didnt work so no inflight entertainment ,ran out of meal choices ,they spilt hot tea all over me, so wrote a letter to complain and they gave me a £30 voucher. big deal. Everytime ive gave ba a chance over the years ive had nothing but problems , so back to eva for me.Flown eva approx 25 times never had a problem. Bet ive just jinxed myself now. Be lucky .

Thanks for the Replies, Jazzy123 made my mind up and the threat of strikes so I'll stick with EVA.

I am using EVA for the first time, I have used emirates several times and Etihad some.

Whats the elite class on EVA? how much extra is it? Is it possible to get an upgrade before the flight?

Elite class varies, from around £600 return to £900+. I'm unlucky because of the time of year. A week or 2 earlier and I would of saved hundreds.

I upgraded once on the BKK to LHR route and I think I was charged about $160-$180 so about £100 sterling.

You get more room, I think it's worth it but as ever it depends what your budget is like.

The BA club and first are good products, but out of reach pricewise, for the majority.

I am going to make an assumption rightly or wrongly, that most on here that travel BA are staff or family with concessions, and recieve upgrades.

Generally the BA economy has smaller legroom, worse service(IMO) and is 25 to 40% more expensive than its 2 competitors on the direct route.

The Prem-economy offers about the same legroom as EVA but again is 25% to 50% more expensive.

Why would you travel BA with the above information?

EVA services the Air Berlin route, and I thought they were very good compared to a recent trip I took on BA to the States. Rubbish flight, poor seating, cramped accommodations on BA but EVA offered a good, reliable and much more relaxed flight.

I always travel with EVA. The last two two times in premium economy/ elite class.

Good IFE, sexy cabin crew & all round good service.

Went once with Thai, the plane was old with no personal tv.

I've already booked a standard seat for my flight to BKK. I just wondered if it is possible to ask for an upgrade to Prem Economy at check-in and if a seat is available, how much extra it would be? I've been lucky my last two outgoing flights in economy as I've been given emergency exit seats, and that extra leg room was great.

You can upgrade if there is room. I guess it would be about £100 - £150. I've only done it once from BKK and i remember not feeling ripped off but I can't remember exactly how much it was.
