Guest friendly hotels in Koh Samui and Phuket?

Anyone know of good quality hotels that charge no or a small joiner fee in Koh Samui and Phuket? I like to chill out a little after a mad time in Pattaya. On my last stay we checked in a hotel in Koh Samui which was lovely unfortunately they wanted to charge 1,200 bhat joiner fee . They never recieved this from my self or my friends we just walked straight through of a night on one occasion a small bribe was sufficent . My own fault i should of researched this before travelling.

Samui I dont know, but Phuket have many. It depends a bit on you budget really.

Most guesthouses dont ask JF or a limited amount. A lot of the more expensive hotels

dont either. Here are some examples (All in Patong by the way):

Well, I have been to Samui several times and one place that is hard to beat it Lamai Wanta. They never charge a joiner fee and are right on the beach. Add to that the fact that their regular rooms are only $28 US a night and they have got to be one of the best bargains in Samui. I mentioned this in another post but I wanted to make mention of it one more time. The R-Bar is a great place to get started. The owner Woodie is one hell of a guy. He know that island like the back of his hand. He is great company and very willing to sit and chat. The girls at his place are not pushy at all and not that bad looking either. I hope this helps.

Some of the larger hotels in Patong charge joiner fees but on the whole both Samui and Phuket are joiner free zones.
