England look set to win by an innings in South Africa! We were a bit lucky in the first test but what an innings by Bell.

I think if we can win in South Africa we are a force to be reckoned with in international test cricket.

What a great end to a great year for English cricket that would be!

Just a shame we are such one day bunnies.

England was brilliant today with one day to go. They only need 4 more wickets and less than 175 runs to win tomorrow. It was all down to Cook batting and broad and swann bowling.. They dont really need Flintoff anymore which I feared earlier this year. Won the ashes and beating the south africans in one day series plus possibly the test series with the south africa.. Great achievements

South Africa are over rated. Even we smashed them in south africa before the ashes series.

This has to be Englands best allround performance in a long time, especially Bell,Cook, and Prior who were under pressure to perform.Looking forward to the next test starting sunday.

Quality stuff.

I've been trying to follow, but by the time I got up this morning it was all over.

Well played the lads. Still a lot of work to go, but they really seem to be coming together as a team.

If we can win a test series in Australia i'll name my firstborn after the Captain. *Assuming he hasn't got a stupid name by then. ;)

The South Africans need more black people in their squad.

Remember aparteid?

A one legged Norweigan was considered more deserving of a place than any black man. :)

We have the Olymic Games coming to London soon.

BLOODY IMMIGRANTS!!!

Yes, if you can run fast.

I thank you. Good night. God bless.

Happy new year. :)

I guess i'm venturing into a dangerous area here.

But if you read the reports it seems the opposite.

South Africa has a lot of positive descrimination (I never understand how any descrimination can be positve, the only way to understand Political correctness sometimes seems to be do what they say and dont' think, and i'm not good at that), because the sport is seen as mostly white and dominated by white cricketers.

Anyway as a result some SA born white players feel they are not getting a chance, and move overseas.

KP, and Trott for example.

When we played the Aussies if one of their bowlers was having a bad series the fans would all chant for him to bowl.

They've been doing that to one of the SA african lads. Can't remember his name. His series hasn't been great, but he also happens to be the first black cricketer and a bit of a legend (nice guy, great ambassidor for the sport etc). Theres a growing feeling that he's out of form at the moment and only being kept into the squad because of positive descrimination.

Theres another lad, again the name slips me, but he had a stint int he first test when one of their other guys had a knock. He nearly destroyed england. Yet they didnt' pick him for the second test when the guy he was in for healed up.

Will be interesting to see how they approach the third test.

Though in broader terms I agree with you. If black and white SA where playing cricket at test level then they'd be a unstoppable. And the sport does seem to be moving in that direction. :Chokdee:

Well...I think it looks like it's gonna be 1-1 now cos we have messed this test right up...Bowling was poor in SA's 2nd innings.

Onions has saved 2 tests for us against OZ and first test here, I reckon he will have to bat out another 10 overs...

Just got this feeling England will sneak out a draw again with a last wicket stand

How about that? Should have had a bet on it....Onions has now saved 3 tests!

I think I will win the lottery this year!

My god.

I was the last one to leave the office. I was glued to the text commentry, willing the balls to fly wide or short of the fielders.

A cracking end to the game.

I nearly shit myself when the batting started to collapse and the end and we had Onions stood against their best with hordes of saffers crowded around him.

Good result in the end.

Why is supporting england such a rollacoster ride, not matter what sport it is.

I bet if the germans played cricket they'd slowly take the lead in an orderly fashion without any upsets or twices and end up winning all the time by a respectable but not to exciting margin.

England will only need a draw in Thitd test to win a series, Hope they will win the series and the third test to make it more glamour... I was impressed by England in 2009 season. I for one thought they will struggle without the likes of Flintoff...

Posted

yes very impressed, even more so considering the issues with the captaincy, and KP's injury and subsequent loss of form - Straussy has done a good job

having said that though, SA should have won the last 2 tests

MMM, this topics quiet.Wonder why?

Maybe the silence is consistent with that applied to third umpire television reviews of crucial decisions by that apparently blind, deaf and dumb official from Australia with the name of Daryl Harper.
