17 Tourists in Boating Accident

whitespider - RIP

Recommended Posts

I have just read in our Thai newspaper that 17 tourists were injured yesterday in a boating accident off Pattaya beach.

The newspaper is in Thai so I cannot (as yet) give a link to a report in English.

Apparently the boat was overloaded and sank, all tourists from China and Russia.

This is the second serious accident involving tourist trip boats in 2 weeks in Pattaya.

Its unbelievable (or maybe not???) that the authorities continue to do nothing about the most basic of safety. If you are considering a boat trip guys think very carefully.

It is sad news indeed, but when you see how they overload there boats with people........it is actually more strange that it is not happend more frequently.

Its sad that Thai authorities do not take any action against such criminal tour operators.

Some try to maximize their profits by overloading the boats, employing “captains” without certification, next to no maintenance, no insurance, etc.

It seems that Pattaya’s officials are more concerned about the opening hours of some Soi 6 bars.

I've had exactly the same thoughts.

Theres been some bad accidents in the past with overloaded boats but they still seem to pack them in. Why turn away a paying customer when theres room to stand somewhere..

I guess they usually get away with it because the waters are calm/sheltered and the journey fairly short.

I hope no one was badly hurt.

Thanks for the link.

Poor guy :(

My god. How do they even get 18 people in those speedboats.

The back seat aint' that big and you wouldn't want to be in that little section at the front if he was going at speed.
