World Cup Draw

Here is the World cup draw

Group A South Africa, Mexico, Uruguay, France.

Group B Argentina, South Korea, Nigeria, Greece

Group C ENGLAND, USA, Algeria, Slovenia

Group D Germany, AUSTRALIA, Ghana, Serbia

Group E Holland, Japan, Cameroon, Denmark

Group F Italy, New Zealand, Paraguay, Slovakia

Group G Brazil, North Korea, Ivory Coast, Portugal

Group H Spain, Honduras, Chile, Switzerland

The group of death this time undoubtedly Group G, where Brazil should be OK but Portugal and Ivory coast will be a key battle. North Korea will be whipping boys, though you never know.

Australia v Germany might be an interesting one...fancy Australia to qualify ahead of Ghana. Actually Serbia are not a bad side so this could be a second group of Death.

England should win their group, Algeria are probably the weakest of the African nations..but you never know.

A walk in the park for the Spanish, I can only see Chile in that group giving them a decent game.

Same for Holland I think

All in all a decent draw for us English

My beloved Sweden missed this one, so I'll be cheering for England & Spain. Both should move on from the group stage fairly easily I think. As for group G, I'm hoping Ivory Coast makes it rather than Portugal.

My thoughts (and some of them more hopes than thoughts really) on who'll move on to the next stage:

Group A France & Mexico (tough call between Mexico & Uruguay)

Group B Argentina & Nigeria (Greece might bore their way through)

Group C ENGLAND & USA (Slovenia might surprise a few of us)

Group D Germany & Ghana (Hoping for Ghana, but might very well be Serbia)

Group E Holland & Denmark (Hoping for Cameroon rather than Denmark)

Group F Italy & Slovakia (My safest bets)

Group G Brazil & Ivory Coast (Tough one, Portugal might grab 2nd, or even first)

Group H Spain & Chile (Honduras outsider?)

Yes, it's so exciting, isn't it? Only six months to speculate on and debate all the permutations before the first ball is hoofed into the stands and the first dive launched into a penalty box; so let's not waste a minute. I thought the ceremonial draw set a surreal benchmark, with mine host rattling out facts that must have been purloined from John Motson's statistics sheets and Charlize Theron clearly benefitting from extensive bimbo coaching from Paris Hilton.

Hopefully, we will see an epidemic of WC trip reports next summer. Every WC I look forward to reading the inside story on Scotland's participation. I find it fascinating to get the low-down from the perspective of a craggy referee.

Group D Germany, AUSTRALIA, Ghana, Serbia

Be realistic, Australia is a "whipping boys" of the group, Ghana is outsider that can upset against Germany allthough Germans are always through so it's between Ghana and Serbia. Ghanas coach is serbian and Serbia is very strong right now so it's easy. I don't see it as a second group of death at all.

Rory Fallon who scored New Zealands goal to get them there used to play for my home town side Yeovil we had him on loan for a while...somehow i don;t think they will be among the front runners!

Ghana have a Certain Lloyd Owusu who was also with us for 2 seasons....

Be great to see the lads I went to watch week in week out perform on the world stage...

Rubbish.

Australia have been very competitive over the last couple of years. They will surprise a few this tournament.

To say they will be "whipping boys" shows your lack of knowledge of world football.

Group A South Africa, Mexico, Uruguay, France.

France and Mexico. Uruguay is a strong outsider.

Group B Argentina, South Korea, Nigeria, Greece.

Argentine should take this one. The other 3 teams can surprise, but my guess is South Korea

Group C England, USA, Algeria, Slovenia.

England and USA. Slovenia is tough and could take a place from one of the other two.

Group D Germany, Australia, Ghana, Serbia.

Germany should win the group with Serbia as numer 2. Sorry Ozzi's

Group E Holland, Japan, Cameroon, Denmark.

Holland will win this group and my favorite team Denmark as number 2.

Group F Italy, New Zealand, Paraguay, Slovakia

Italy and Paraguay

Group G Brazil, North Korea, Ivory Coast, Portugal

Brazil is by far the strongest and Portugal will be 2.

Group H Spain, Honduras, Chile, Switzerland

Spain as number 1 and Switzerland number 2

Well, you are from Australia and you can always hope for the best and indeed everything can happend in football but try to look at it without any feelings involved. If you do that and if you have been following Europian football just a little you can come to one conclusion only - Australia can not match Germany or Serbia on any position in the field.

If we assume that German are allready through (and that is exactly what is going to happend even though their national team is not so good right now) let's talk about Serbia. More then half of the players play in the best teams of the world in England, Italy and Spain and rest of the players play in the best teams of Germany and Russia. Does it matter? Of course it does.

Their coach has been very succesfull in coaching Atletico Madrid and is one of only two man that has managed both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. Does his experience matter? Of course it does.

If you have been following World Cup qualifiers in Europe and if you have been following group with France and Serbia among others you can come to one conclusion only: it is going to be extemly difficult for Australia to surprise.

It's easy to be competitive against banana countries like Iraq, Qatar, Bahrain, Uzbekistan... Against some of the best European teams it's a "little" bit different.

And notice here, I never even mentioned Ghana. Australia will be going through some very tuff football time in Sout Africa, no doubt about that.

Well, i'm glad that the Celts that will be in Pattaya when the World Cup is on now know what replica shirts to buy

The sweat shops in China are going full tilt to provide enough USA, Algeria and Slovenia shirts....just so that the people of Scotland, Ireland and Wales can feel a part of it all :GoldenSmile1:

Maybe so, but your statement of whipping boys was pure dribble.

The last world cup they were grouped with Brazil, japan,Croatia. They advanced in that group, they then played Italy losing in the 91st min, 1-0.

The past 12 months they have some very good results against European sides which includes a draw with the dutch, a win in Ireland.

They have beaten Ghana in the last 12 months.

TO SAY THEY WILL BE WHIPPING BOYS IS RIDICULOUS.

Anyway, good luck to your team in the world cup.

Australia whipping boys - i don't think so. I do know that if the side plays well and we certianly know how to play hard the boys will do well. Soccer in Oz is taking off more and more young kids are playing compared to 10 years ago this is very good for the future success of the natiuonal team. Most schools now play soccer as part of the cirriculum. For a nation of 16 million Oz punches well above our weight in all sports. Look out here we come!

The population of Austrailia is 20.6 mill mate its no great suprise they get to the world cup finals look at the teams they play Japan being the best they came up against. They would have no chance in a ufea group best they can hope for is 3rd in the group.

No chance in UEFA?

Yet some how Switzerland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Denmark, and Greece managed to qualify? Hardly football powerhouses.

Whipping boys is a poor choice of words. Underdogs maybe, but we will give a good account for ourselves. Serbia and Ghana are beatable.

I agree. This is actually a tough group with four decent sides. In fact Serbia are more than decent! Didnt they qualify unbeaten? Or at least very easily.

The onbious talking point is the Brazil group and I am really looking forward to that one - whatever way you look at it one of the big guns goes out as IC are (probably) the pick of the African teams.

On ething is for sure - the groups always throw up at least one surprise. Just the math says that out of 48 group games (I think) at least a few will be surprises.

Well....OK, sorry. You are right, these 32 nations in the World Cup are 31 best football nations in the world at the moment, minus France plus Irealnd and to call any of them for whipping boys is a bad choice of words indeed. I just used the same term as OP did in decribing team of North Korea.

And of course, good luck to Australia!

You have just named 5 teams that would beat Austrailia the afc groups were laughable and Austrailia couldnt even win the afc championships.
