I'm going to Pattaya in Feb. for 3 weeks and have Marriot reward points. I wanted to spend some time in Phuket as well. If you had the choice, would you go to Marriott in Pattaya or Courtyard Phuket at Kamala Beach, Patong Beach or Surin Beach? I've read that Marriott Pattaya are GF but what about the Courtyard hotels in Phuket? All 4 hotels are the same number of points.

I've stayed in Patts and Phuket on Marriot points. The Pattaya Marriot is totally awesome, girl friendly and if your a platinum member you'll get your upgrade, free breakfast, and Internet.

The Courtyard in Phuket Patong beach is where I stayed at. It's close to where you'll want to be Bangla Rd. about 6 blocks. I can't speak on the other locations. They are girl friendly but they won't give you free internet or breakfast it'll cost you about 15.00 US a day if you need it in-room.

Either way you'll see a big difference in the action from Patts to Phuket. I was there this past may and seemed to be allot of families vactioning there and less girls. Don't get me wrong there will be plenty of action just not compared to Patts.

Enjoy

Marriott Phuket

Plus:

Excellent hotel, truly 5*, right on the quiet Mai Kao Beach in the North of the island.

Minus:

Far away from nightlife, shopping and restaurants.

Depending on traffic it will take you around 45 mins. to Patong, and the local tuk-tuks are the biggest rip-off on the island.

Courtyard Surin

Plus:

Some bars (most without girls) and plenty of reasonable restaurants in Surin, beach is one of Phuket’s best (but absolute no-swim during low season) and bit crowded during high season. Close to Leam Sing which is a nice small bay (around 10 mins. walk).

Minus:

A 3* property with some history, about 5 - 10 mins walk to the beach.

Courtyard Kamala

Plus:

17 beer bars and plenty of reasonable restaurants in Kamala, beach is ok and not overcrowded (due to the huge Muslin cemetery, which covers around 1/3rd of the beach. About 15 mins. drive to Patong.

Minus:

A 3* property with some history, about 5 – 10 mins walk to the beach.

Courtyard Patong

Plus:

Excellent nightlife, plenty of restaurants and shops, beach is crowded in high season, water quality is acceptable.

Right next to the beautiful beaches of Karon and Kata (

Minus:

A 3* property with some history, about 10 misn walk to the beach or 20 bath for a motorbike taxi.

If you stay in Mai Kao, Surin or Kamala, I recommend hiring a motorbike as the tuk-tuks ask for ridiculous fares.

Anyhow, Phuket is a lovely island with 11 sandy beaches and paradise-like islands nearby.
