Current taxi situation @ BKK

I'm touching down at BKK on 19th Dec @ 18.50, (just) too late for the bus.

 

I read on the forum a few months ago that there had been a 'clean up' of illegal taxi drivers, leaving only the

 

I got the Bell bus on level 1 last time. While waiting & enjoying a smoke outside, I was assaulted by taxi drivers offering their services for 800b.

 

Are they still there?

 

Also some BMs go up to arrivals to get a taxi there. Can you still do this?

 

Will the taxis, in full knowledge that there is no alternate, know that they have you by the balls & charge accordingly?

 

I tried pre-booking Mr T, but no response so far.

There is another bus going to Jomtien. Similar price as Bell. I never used their service so I don't know if they offer a minibus transfer to your hotel. If not expect the need to hire a taxi.

I also got a taxi at the airport for 900, just by waiting outside and letting the people approach you. First they quote a lot more for their limousine service, but agreed to 900 later.

 

In case you can pre-arrange a transfer that would be the easiest way (and probably the safest as you know your drivers company).

The touts and their cars are GONE - as I discovered to my tragic cost last night. If you're too late for the buses, the only option is now a "taxi-meter" at 1500 baht (or a "limo" at christ knows how much). I spent a good 30 minutes wandering around the various levels and nobody approached me with a negotiable deal, and nor did I see anyone who looked approachable.

 

Booking in advance with Mr T/Too/Dream seems like the best option now. Or booking a flight that gets in before 8:30PM (I'll remember to add B1000 to the cost of any flight that doesn't in future).

Avoid Mr. Dream... he is requiring prepayment now... F*ck that. There is also some threads about him in a negatives report and I hear he has been booted from this board.

 

Mr. Toom's reliability is reported shaky lately.

 

Mr T ([email protected]) and P T Taxi([email protected]) are each 1000baht. Mr T seemed to be a bit slow checking email but has good reports. PT also has good reports and will email you back quickly.

I'd opt for Mr T every time. The last time I used them was in April this year. I forgot all about booking a taxi before I left the uk. I remembered when I arrived in Dubai for the 2 hour stop over. I emailed them from one of the computers in the lounge just before boarding the plane. I wasnt sure if they'd have enough time and turn up. But they did..
