Another SCAM out of Suvarnabhumi airport

Just want to warn people of another new scam out of the airport.

Few weeks ago i posted a small 10kg parcel from Thailand to Australia by EMS.

Content of the parcel was shirts, tshirt and shorts.

Week gone by and parcel was not received, while online tracking showed the location-suvarnabhumi airport

I was in Australia at the time, so contacted Thailand Post, the response was parcel is with Thai Customs and to contact Thai Customs

I must say that its very puzzling as to why small parcel from Thailand would be with Thai customs

So i called Thai Customs and quotes the tracking number. There was no record of this tracking number nor did they know anything about my parcel.

I contacted Thailand Post again and this time i was given the name and mobile number of a person who supposedly is from customs.

I called that number.

This man was not making much sense, but kept saying something about me not having the declaration forms. After telling him 100 times that this is a small personal parcel going out of Thailand NOT into Thailand and there are no declaration forms or any forms for that matter.

He then asked where i was and asked that i come see him in person.

As i was not in Thailand to come see him, he told me to send a friend to see him.

I called one of my friends and asked him to call the guy and make time for see him.

When my friend called him, he told my friend to bring forms, when my friend questioned what forms, he said form 5 0 0 b a h t

So i thought, ok 500 baht will not kill me.

My mate could not be bothered going to the airport, so he sent his girl.

Once she got there, he took the "forms" and called 5 people over and they started to take apart the parcel.

He then started to ask why i needed this clothing and why i had so many. She told him Xmas was few weeks away and 10kg box is really not that many.

He returned the "forms" and demanded i come see him.

As i came to Thailand the other day, i went to see a lawyer about this. Lawyer advised me NOT to go there or make any contact as this is a new scam. Once i go there, they will find "something" inside the parcel and i get arrested and extorted for 200K+

or after i pay him, i get arrested for bribing an official with same outcome.

He also advised not to file any reports with police but to contact Embassy and lodge a report, because if this scam does not work out, they could always put the parcel through with "little extra" inside just to fuck me.

NOTE TO ALL- There is no official notice or reports or anything stating where the parcel is and why its being held or any evidence at all of anything.

Now i was scared little but also angry and decided not to give my clothing to this scammers and try to fight it.

I contacted big law firms and ask them for help.

Principal of the firm was shocked to learn all the facts and decided to call that man from customs.

Funny enough, when she called him he started to talk some crap and totally opposite to what he was telling me and my friend.

When she asked him why no notice was given, he just hung up the phone.

2 mins later her phone rang, same phone from which she called and it was him pretending to be a client asking for the info about the law firm.

Once he learned it was a law firm he called back again and this time started to talk other crap saying parcel was full of copy armani clothing, which is 500% untrue and there was nothing he could do.

Lawyer then again asked him why no notice was issued and why there are no records on customs database, he hung up the phone and phone has been off ever since.

So people be aware, if you post anything from Thailand to other country, this is now the new scam. My advice would be to keep the boxes small and show small value not to attract their attention..

Hope this post helps others. If you are already in simialr situation, you welcome to contact me, and i will give you info for my lawyer who seems to be doing pretty well in this case.

yep them dirty thai customs are stealing our 300 baht t shirts again

Better to be daring and cool, than timid and uncool! Life's journey is not about arriving at your gravesite in a well preserved condition, but rather dropping into it in a long sideways skid, totally worn out, and shouting "Holy Shit...What a ride" - Indian Larry

10 kg is little more then 1 tshirt, its actually 40 plus shirts, tshirts and shorts plus 4500 baht for postage. so its 15000 baht not 300 but i guess you need a calculator for that!

Bringing your fight from another thread really does not do you any good, just show how pittyful you actually are.

This post is to warn people of a scam not for me to discuss your bad or good relations with another board member.

If its not use to you, then just skip through it and i wish you all the best!

PS. I am glad you have an accountant, without one you could be in real trouble!

PPS. All the facts including the weight and all other factors are written in the original post.

I've been going to the LOS for years and you never stop learning. Your little tale has alerted us to another scam to con money out of us falangs. I try to have as little as possible to do with officialdom in Thailand as possible and stick my familiar procedures. One example is that I never check bin with a 1000 baht note after once being given change for a 500 note.
