Flying to Buriram from Bangkok

I'm looking to fly to Buriram on the afternoon of Tue 15 Dec but am struggling to find any flight info. on the web.

pbair.com website announces that all flights are suspended

It's a journey I've never made by air. If anyone can shed any light on this I'd most appreciate it.

PB Air have suspended flights to Burriram supposedly because they did not receive delivery of new planes as expected.

I have heard rumours though that Nokair may be taking route over as they are advertising for ground staff at Burriram Nok Job Vacancy

There are some good comfortable buses from Pattaya and Bangkok Nakonchai Air for around 500 Baht or a train from Bangkok (get the overnight sleeper 1st or 2nd air con)

PB Air seems to have tubed.

No current flight schedule on its web-site and last month they stopped flights to/from Lampang, Mae Sot, Roi Et and Sakon Nakhon as well as Burinam. Ticket sales counter at UBC in BKK has disappeared and the office staff upstairs haven't a clue what's happening. Phone lines left unanswered or, if you connect with a human being and ask what flights are scheduled, the common reply (tried twice) is "not sure" or "ask at airport". Bugger all to do with lack of aircraft: low loads for months = cash flow probs = cannot pay bills.

I must admit that I'd be tempted to use the bus myself. The journey is 278 miles and can be done in 5 and a half hours. Once you've travelled from Pattaya to the airport, checked in etc and then travelled from the airport in Buriram I doubt if you'd save two hours in time over the whole trip. I doubt if a bus would cost over 500 Baht one way. For the price of flights you could hire a car and drive yourselves there and back plus use the car for some sight seeing while you are there. Food for thought.

I traveled by bus from Bangkok to Satuk (just north of Buriram). The journey was cheap, about 320 baht. It took almost six hours with a couple of food stops. It was interesting to see the countryside etc but got a bit tedious after a while. The bus seemed to stop at very random places to collect and drop off passengers.

If you are coming back by bus I would recommend calculating the journey times in order to avoid rush hour in Bangkok as we sat in the traffic for ages. The bus also broke down twice but a couple of Thais with hammers repaired it both times in the space of a few minutes!

Next time I want to try the overnight train.

The bus sounds a bit time consuming and with all the stops could probably be longer than necessary. How bad is the drive and has anyone rented a car to make the trip? I haven't ventured out in the villages in Thailand pretty much a Pattaya addict... do the big car companies offer GPS and can they get you to smaller towns?

If you look in Items for Sale and Rent Bagwan is offering a Pick up truck for hire at very reasonable rate with GPS !

Buriram is easy to get to and truck is the answer as some of the roads have potholes in take highway 304 then 24 its very easy once your on 304!

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Don't mind driving and recognizing that the roads can be a bit rough... I just won't be able to wait to see my girl for a five hour bus ride!
