Help with hotel choice please

Hi a newbie to the pattaya scene here.

Will be visiting pattaya for two weeks or so in June 2010 and have in mind two hotels.

Pattaya Bay Resort or Areca Lodge.

http://pattayabayresort.com/

http://www.arecalodge.com/

Delux room for the Bay Resort or the executive room for Areca.

I will be with my partner and our main wants are:

decent pool(with some shade if possible)

clean room

good aircon

inroom safe/deposit box

price up to 2000(2500 if that includes joiner for 3rd guest)

not to far to walk for transport

not very loud at night but easy to get to nightlife/massage/good thai food

staff not make a scene when you bring back a guest with your missus

big fridge plus tea and coffee making nice to have but not a deal breaker.

So any real difference between these hotels with those requirements? I believe they both have the same joiner of 500 baht for a third guest?

Also if there is another hotel that fits those requirements I would love to know.

Cheers!

Both are good choices Arecalodge has much more right around it...and it is an area I very much like....some construction there recently but I am unsure if it will affect you....PBR is a favorite of many guys here....less action and restaurants very close but nothing is far away either....You are choosing between two very good choices....

I've heard that the Pattaya Bay Resort is a great place to stay. Only complaint is that it's about 200 yards off 2nd road, which is the main route of baht buses.

Areca Lodge is a great-looking hotel, but some have said the rooms are starting to get a bit old. Also, the customer service isn't as good as what it used to be. Can some recent guest of either hotel chime in?

My personal favorite meet your needs. Check out super deluxe http://www.mindresortpattaya.com/roomsandrates_superdeluxe.php

decent pool(with some shade if possible) - Much more than that , check http://www.pattaya-addicts.com/forum/index.php?/topic/45205-mind-resort-hotel/

clean room - only thing that won't change every day its the bathrobe.

good aircon - from my experience aircon was too powerful for the size of the room. So you need to set the temp right or you will be in north pole

inroom safe/deposit box - check

price up to 2000(2500 if that includes joiner for 3rd guest)- off season weekly rate is 2.200 but they also have 10% off so its 2.000

not to far to walk for transport - many bike-taxi in hotel entrance but no buses usually on 3rd road.

not very loud at night but easy to get to nightlife/massage/good thai food - no outside noise at all, WS is 10min on foot 2 min on bike :GoldenSmile1:

staff not make a scene when you bring back a guest with your missus - they just need id's for your safety , thats all :Clap9:

big fridge plus tea and coffee making nice to have but not a deal breaker. - fridge is 1,60m high , tea&coffee complimentary

EDIT: Fridge is about 1,20m high , sorry my mistake

EDIT2: ( to avoid a new post for a small answer) No wifi , only wired free internet. Plug is next to the big desk viewing the pool and its decent (about 4-6 Mbit and stable)

A trip to Pattaya has its ugly side ... Unfortunately you need to go back home :/

just got a reply from them. the bad news is they dont have wifi in room. the great news is they have broadband cable internet in room :Grin_Jump1:

Thanks for the excellent help people!

Good to know either choice should be great.

Mind resort also sounds really nice voltaire, the pool looks especially good for privacy and shade.

Only real problem with it is that my missus won't use a motorbike taxi but still worth considering.

Our first trip to Thailand was to Karon in Phuket and transport was a real issue, got a bit expensive if you wanted to do a lot of trips.

Thats why I love the idea of baht busses, costs nothing comparatively when using the standard routes.

I think I am leaning towards areca but probably will book the first week there and check out PBR and see if I want to swap.

Cheers!

I've stayed in the PBR now 3 times (i've only done 4 trips to Patts) and found its good value for money and you know what you're getting. There aren't any hidden costs. The pool is pretty small though if you're looking to swim, but the price is outstanding at 1000 bt per night for a standard room with every 7th night thrown in for free.

Main problem with the PBR is getting a room. Its pretty popular all year round, so getting in there can be a hassle.

I know what wi fi is. How does it differ from broadband cable?

You might want to check out the Sandy Springs hotel on Soi 13 when you get to Pattaya. I've stayed there 4 times. I visited the PBR and checked out their rooms. The bathroom does not have a bathtub and the shower is not separate from the toilet. However, it does have free wi fi whereas with the SS you must pay extra.

Thanks for the suggestion, will have to check it out and add it to my growing list of possibles.

So many choices!

Will probably stay for three weeks now as was planning on a week in Chiang Mai but decided if we really like Pattaya(from everything I have read we will) we will stick with Pattaya and visit Chaing Mai the next trip.
