Long Term Accom Req (Wifi a must)

Hello i hope you do not mind me asking another one of these 'which hotel/guestroom' type thread.

I am just on my way back to Scotland after my first visit to Pattaya. I don't have anything to go home to bar a loving family but i dont have a wife or children. I don't work as my money comes from playing poker. I have a large enough bankroll to go back to Pattaya (after the 15th Jan 2010) and look into some long term accomodation. I would prefer to pay it monthly and i aint looking for a lot. Just air con in the room and also wifi. both are a must for me as im a sweaty and i need to play poker each day.

Can anyone recommend any guesthouses/rooms/appartments around Pattaya that offers what i am after? I noticed Canterbury tales cafe mentioned and also annajet which are both within my budget. can anyone offer me any advice on those two or any other places that are in a similar price range and offer the same facilities? It would be great to have a few options for when i return in January. I just want to find a place i can put my head down. i dont mind noise either.

thanks

You could rent a townhouse and get the phone put in... WIFI sucks and shared internet can be worse than dialup

For that period of time, you may want your own place instead of something hotelish...

You will find many of the places that are for farangs also come with hidden extras. such as double the electricity bill... half for the power company half for the owner and that can be over 6000 baht a month... then the same goes for water....

I am putting together a website that my GF will work on and she will find property (long term) that is listed in Thai newspapers and Thai websites. They tend to be a lot cheaper and since they dont directly marketto farang, they dont incur the hidden extras. In some cases, water is included in the rent and the electricity bill comes direct from the power company and not to the landlord who puts his bit on top.

I had a friend stay at carina mansion (as did I) and in 1 week, his elec bill was over 2000 baht... I stayed a month and it was more than my monthly rent bill...

Accomodation is tricky and if you remember that if its targetted at farangs, then you can be sure that the landlords mentality of "he farang, he have much money" will most certainly incorporate some fleecing.

There's places everywhere - hit the ground and start looking. Lots of cheap places to be found off Soi Bukhao and around Carrefour. Not all have internet but plenty do. My new apt (B6000 per month) has a wired connection for B500 per month, that's faster than the wifi in most hotels/GH I've stayed in (but still not super-fast).

Electric/Water rates are pretty standard at around 7/25B per "unit", however much that is.

For specifics, I liked this place.

Sitting here now in this bar for hours,

whilst strange men rent strange flowers,

I'll be picking up your petals in another few hours...

There are some great houses in Bang Saray for 10k a month, my place is a bit further out, only 6k a month for rent. (3 bedroom house)

Thanks for the advice CyberHippie. I'm glad you mentioned the hidden extras to me as i would have got stung with them (as i did with my bar bill a couple of times and my hotel minibar) The townhouse idea sounds good but i don't want to be far from town and the hustle and bustle. I still quite like the idea of staying in some local bar, popping down for breakfast and maybe a late night drink, get to know the girls, be kept awake half the night with noise, that sort of thing. I got cut off a few times on hotel wifi and when there is only 5 of you left from 1500 in a poker tournie the last thing you need is to be cut off from your poker. I think it will have to be wifi in the room.

Your website idea sounds a good idea and i would be interested in it if its up online before i book up. Im actually quite enjoying looking into it all.

that sounds perfect for me devil plaything. If i can smoke in bed and the apt is in the hustle bustle of the nightlife then thats EXACTLY what i am looking for (sod the girls and bars downstairs idea) Can you suggest anywhere? that 24 7 place looks ideal bar the non smoking.

thanks LaaMok. them prices sound great. If i can get a place in town then i will be happy. I will keep looking and planning but all suggestions much apprectiated. thanks

Just curious, is there internet service out there to a home, or do you need to come into town?

Devil-playhing,

Have you stayed or are you staying at the place where you included the link? Looks like what I am needing. But it doesn't really mention location other than 10 min. walk to Walking Street. You have any location info on this place? Also, I assume they are ok with mongering and the girls going in and out? I know its Pattaya, but need to make sure. Any info you can give me would be appreciated! thanks!
