Brasil Wins the 2016 Olympics & 2014 World Cup Host Bids!

Rio De Janiero, Brasil just won the selection to be the host city for the 2016 Summer Olympics!!!! This is the first time the Olympics have ever been in South America, let alone Brasil. The announcement was made a couple of hours ago and I know they are going to be celebrating BIG TIME tonight!

 

Brasil was also selected to be the host country for the 2014 World Cup, the first time since the 1950 World Cup when they built the world's largest stadium, Maracana.

 

I can't wait to return to Brasil to party for those events!

Congratulations but i guess there is not really a long time for celebrations because they will have a lot to do regarding infrastructure, buildings, security etc....

I've been hoping the 2014 World Cup would be in Brazil for a year or two now since I heard it was probably between them and Argentina. I have been wanting to go to Brazil for a long time, and the world cup for a number of years now as well (I moved to Korea just after the 2002 Korea/Japan World Cup, that was a terrible disappointment to miss, but I was there for the Germany 2006 and it was a lot of fun whenever Korea played - so much national pride there, can't imagine what it would be like to be in the actual country). Anyways, I'm excited about this and have to keep it on my calendar.

I''ve been to Brasil three times before, twice for Carnaval and once for NYE. Looks like I'll do three more trips now, World Cup 2014, Carnaval 2015, Olympics 2016!!!
