Mystery Surrounds Foreign Balcony Jumper.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Tirasak from Pattaya Police Station was called to the Four Seasons Place in Soi 22 off the Pattaya Third Road on Wednesday Evening after staff at the Condominium reported an apparent suicide of one their Condo Owners. Arriving at the scene, Police and rescue workers inspected the body of Mr. Martin Antony Bonin aged 64, who holds both Australian and UK Passports and was originally born in London. He had apparently fallen from a 7th Floor Condo recently purchased by the victim. He had come to make a final inspection of the Condo prior to moving in. We were not allowed in the complex and staff at the Condo were blocked from speaking with journalists. One theory given to us from a source at the scene suggests he fell ill and fell of the balcony as he was inspecting it. A post mortem examination is now underway to determine if the man suffered a medical problem prior to him falling off the balcony. The British Embassy in Bangkok are also aware of the case and are conducting their own investigation.

Cui Bono?

That is to say who benefits : Condo Owners ? TGF ? The price of a new condo in a state of financial limbo? Undoubtedly profitable for someone!

The amount of Western men committing "suicide" is Pattaya's biggest unspoken scandal; everyone knows what is really happening.

The police are on record as wrapping up as suicide cases in which the faller had his hands tied behind his back or apparently beaten himself to death with an iron bar.

He thought he bought the condo for 1.2 million baht, but upon final inspection found out it was 1.2 million pounds.

AUSTRALIAN MAN ALLEGEDLY FELL FROM VERANDAH IN PATTAYA CONDO

A 64 year old Australian man who fell from a 7th floor condo verandah in Four Seasons Place, Soi Chalermprakeit 22, Pattaya 3rd Road on the 9th May 2007, suffered fatal injuries after it is suspected he fainted on his verandah and fell to the ground.

The police were accordingly notified of the alleged accident at 6.00 pm and, accompanied by a Sawang Boriboon Rescue team, went to the condo to investigate.

Pol.Lt.Col. Teerasak Jaroensri, the Investigating Officer, questioning an eye-witness, Mr. Supot Jaree (50), from Thachang, Singburi province, a security guard from the E.L.C company, discovered that Mr. Bonin had been supervising the progress of his room renovation, alone, while Mr. Supot was downstairs. Suddenly, the security guard heard the sound of a heavy object falling from above.

When he rushed out to investigate, he found the Australian dead in the car park of the condo. He had sustained severe injuries, including broken legs, ribs and neck. Beside his body were found a black cap, a shoulder bag containing medicines, some documents, a room key No. 404 LK Pavilion, and about 50 Baht in coins.

The police, going to Mr. Bonin’s 7th floor room to investigate, discovered that the room’s window is only 50 cm. high from the floor and found some footprints of Mr. Bonin around that area. It was initially assumed that Mr. Bonin had fainted and fallen off the verandah. The body for will be sent for autopsy and further investigation.

Photographs of dead Australian splattered on the road below withheld but can be viewed on Pattaya Daily News website

Don't believe for a second that this poor sap fell or jumped. Come on! why would anyone want to do themself in that way. With all the tail to be had in Pattaya, there are much better ways one could go. I'm sure we are all thinking the same thing here. He had some help going out the window... Wait and see who moves into the condo. I'll bet it was his helper.

The investigating team have to confisgate all valuable belongings forever to determine the speed at which he landed. The investigating officer conducts the experiment on the valuables by porning it all of at the local jewerly shop. That way everyone is happy.

On a serious note, this has to stop!! Can we design some sort of parachute that farang have to wear compulsory while in Pattaya.

There's nothing new here, been happening forever in Pattaya.

This forum has a relatively young membership, but if you search back on Talk, where there are more retired guys, you'll see that this particular Thai tradition has them all worried.

The 2 cops are saying in Thai "Crikey, I'm glad I wasn't standing here when he decided to jump."

Or "Surely there must be some way we can fine him for this?"
