The first time that I went on an overseas holiday I had travel insurance and never used it so I have never really bothered with it since, is Pattaya the sort of place that it would be recomended to be covered or should I just try to be careful??

LOL

Don't even think about coming 2 Pattaya with no insurance

Just walking along the soi's is dangerous - the cars drive very close by - no pavements u see!

Never mind all the other hazzards like no drain covers..........the list is endless.

Keep a copy of the insurance certificate/help numbers, in yr pocket at all times.

You will probably not need it but shite can and does happen on a daily basis in Pattaya - it's like the Wild West where anything goes and nobody cares what happens to you

You can get annual worldwide cover for about £40, its not worth the risk for that price really.

beyond belief that just because he didnt use insurance first time they dont need it now, just one accident thats all it takes, could cost you a fortune in hospital fees, you will need to put down a deposit, if you dont treatment!!!

thanx for the feed back, I've got insurance and it only cost aud$7.50 a day, so atleast I can have peace of mind even if nothing goes wrong. My first trip overseas was to Bali where I will never go again, second time around lasted for 3 years and lived out of a backpack and traveled in Asia Europe and the Middle East was on a budget and did it on the cheap with no insurance, but if I can afford to go to Thailand to really live it up I can afford insurance cheerz......

travellers must be crazy if they dont take out travel insurance.hospitals and special airfares for patients are not cheap.you could be forced to take out a loan or sell your house just to get back home.for australians and other nationalitys the best one is allianz.u can get medical only insurance for around $90 for the month long holiday.then u are covered for an unlimted amount up to the millions of dollars mark

Hi

got an annual multi trip worldwide cover with direct travel, booked it online at www.direct-travel.co.uk cost £43.20 i think that included discount for renewing. With a standard policy the length of each trip is 30 days.

The only point of reference I have is this message board.

If you read the Trip Reports, they are littered with instances of BMs requiring medical treatment.

Makes the decision pretty easy, IMO.

Several years ago I used Specialty Risk International as required to travel on a fulbright (6 weeks Mexico and Canada) I was wondering about using them for my next trip.... after reading the posts the answer is "I will"

thanks for the posts

I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly.

I always took out travel insurance when I lived in the UK and only once had to make a claim - for over TEN times the cost of the premium. That was for 2 days in the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital suffering from a severe case of food poisoning.

because i extended by one week, I psent the last 7 days with no insurance - felt uncomfortable doing this but tried not 2 think about it - thats the problem with extending

i used insureandgo - seemed o.k and you get a nice, credt card style card, with all the details printed on it - so if something bad happens, the doctor will find it and know your details

One point I don't think that has been covered, but I read before I retired here that the insurance companies in the UK were cracking down on accidents that occurred whilst you were drunk. Their definition of drunk? Over the UK drink drive limit!!!

Question Time! How many of you, whilst on holiday in Thailand, drink sufficient to put you over the UK drink drive limit? A great many of us, I would think!

I don't have a problem with this if you're riding a motorbike without a crash helmet, but if you're just a pedestrian or a passenger on a baht bus, the blood alcohol limit should be one hell of a lot higher!!!!! I can be over the drink drive limit, but drunk and incapable - I think not!

Bloody insurance companies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mate, dont go anywhere without travel insurance let alone thailand.Last easter me and a mate got food poisining from one of the beachfront seafood restaraunts and ended up in the bangkok pattaya hospital courtesy of an ambulance from our hotel. To cut a long storey short mate the bill was400 quid each as we were on intravenous drips ect and my insurance paid up direct to the hospital.Anything can happen on any holiday anywhere in the world, and to put it bluntly only an idiot would travel without it.

I would definitely get travel insurance. My credit card I have has $50,000 travel insurance on it, so I think I'll be fine. I do need to call them and confirm everything though...better safe than sorry!
