Air Asia - Payment Problems

Has anyone else tried purchasing tickets with Air Asia online over the last 48 hours? (since 07/15/09)

My Visa Card that has always worked in the past is now saying declined. When I contact my bank they say Air Asia is not even trying to deduct the money. Weird!

Anybody else having this issue??

  • 4 weeks later...

Had a problem with Air Asia & my UK VISA debit card last March. Phoned the call centre in BKK & they gave me a reference number to pay at 7-11.

Tried the same thing this week for their seat sale, but they said can only book & pay online for the promo fares. So decided not to bother travelling!

It did leave me wondering how I can get a Thai VISA or MasterCard credit card. Must do some research.

I have booked two return flights in the last few days without a problem. However, now you can pay using PayPal as an option?

A possible problem may be that the billing address that you enter for the credit card must be exactly the same as on your credit card statement. Tried to book for a friend and it wouldnt take. when he checked his bill he had given me some wrong info on the bill address.

I tried booking a flight on AirAsia today and had the same problem.

  • US issued. Bank of America debit card with Visa logo, registered with Verify Visa - declined.
  • Tried US issued Bank of America credit card with Visa logo, not registered with Verify Visa - also declined.
  • Finally, I found a separate account, US issued Bank of America debit card with MASTERCARD logo - ACCEPTED.

Not sure if there is any logic to this. I read various theories on fees that are charged to merchants on Visa debit cards, but then I tried the Visa credit card and also declined. Maybe there is something about BofA and Visa that the system does not like. Mastercard from the same bank did the trick.

I've been using Bendigo Bank Visa debit for years in Australia, never a problem.

The problem seems to be when you try to pay with a foriegn credit card. I tried to book some flights earlier this year and could not use either of my two credit cards (one visa and one MC.) I ended up having to call their call centres. The flights cost me more than the ones I found on the internet. You don't suppose that they use this as a way of keeping the cheep flights for locals...mmmm?
