Thailand Offers Good Tourism and Business Opportunities (01/07/2009)

Thailand welcomes foreign visitors and investors, as it offers good tourism and business opportunities for them, together with new incentives and facilities. The Government is also determined to bring back the country’s reputation as “the land of smiles, the land of the free, and the land of opportunity.”

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva outlined Thailand’s tourism and business opportunities in his speech given at the seminar “Amazing Thailand, Amazing Value,” on June 27 in Guangzhou, the People’s Republic of China.

He said that, in the wake of the decline in global travel, the Thai government in April this year included tourism promotion in the national agenda. It had introduced the exemption of visa fees for tourists, initially from March to June 2009, and then the visa exemption has been extended until March next year. The Government is also working on diversifying Thailand’s tourism industry. Tourists can now combine their cultural excursions with other activities, like spas, sports, medical check-ups, and eco-tourism.

In order to make traveling in Thailand as convenient as possible for foreign visitors, the Airport Rail Link – the latest transportation option in Bangkok – will be operating by the end of this year, linking Suvarnabhumi Airport to Makkasan Station in the heart of Bangkok. The rail link is also connected to the underground and skytrain systems and will help tourists get to and around Bangkok with greater ease.

What a load of bollox! Does he really imagine that any of this will create a swell of increased tourism! The only instant remedy for for the present falling tourist numbers is an immediate devaluation by a minimum of 20%. of their 3rd world vastly ptotected currency!

Good for exports, jobs and of course us, but never happen as their corrupt Goverment officials/businessmen would stand to lose millions in stashed away in their secret overseas accounts!

Compared to malaysia thailand is an investment nightmare

i n malaysia you can buy land or house (and they actually want you to mortgage) and businesses freehold

Better to be daring and cool, than timid and uncool! Life's journey is not about arriving at your gravesite in a well preserved condition, but rather dropping into it in a long sideways skid, totally worn out, and shouting "Holy Shit...What a ride" - Indian Larry

I dont know how you make that out

All that will happen is price increases will face those that are fortunate enough to have a fairly secure outlook, and be able to holiday anywhere.

Even then, when they see the price rises for themselves there will be quite a few say "fuck this...this is the LAST time we are coming here"

Those that dont have that same fortune and are counting the pennies, holidaying in Thailand isnt anywhere near the top of the list of things to do, and wont be for the forseesable future.

Imagine how much money the taxi drivers are going to lose out on after that rail connection gets made!

Great headline. LMAO. Another headline in this section 'Some Bars defy Police Orders and continue to serve alcohol during religious holiday' says a lot. It seems to me 10 or even 5 years ago, it was quite easy and relaxed to get a drink during a holiday, election etc. Same holiday, but more uptight country. Pages could be written on how much less relaxed and less tolerant this country has become over the last couple of decades.
