Two suspected thieves shot following necklace snatch in Jomtien.

A necklace snatch nearly turned deadly on Tuesday Afternoon as two suspects were shot at as they attempted to escape with a necklace belonging to a Russian Tourist. The incident began at the bottom end of the Tepprasit Road at the intersection with the Tappraya Road. Mr. Lavrenov aged 24 from Russian and his girlfriend were on a motorbike driving towards Jomtien Beach when two men on a further bike pulled up beside them and snatched Mr. Lavrenov’s necklace worth around 10,000 Baht. The victims raised the alarm and luckily a group of Pattaya Police Volunteers were close-by and gave chase. The Volunteers claim that they were losing the pair and eventually found them on the ground in Soi Jurarak which is off the Tepprasit Road. Khun Ampon aged 20 and Khun Henry aged 18 who is of Thai-German Nationality had been shot. Police were unsure who shot the pair but guess that someone chasing the pair opened fire on them. The necklace which had been stolen was recovered in undergrowth and the two suspects were sent to Hospital while Mr. Lavrenov made his way to the Police Station to make a statement.

Still alive unfortunately, I wonder how long it will be before they commit another crime.

Good shooting, whoever it was. Cheers. Maybe that will make them realize their not invincible. And start thinking twice about such acts in the future.

Sucks for them great to Hear!! I have noticed that more and more of these guys are getting caught lately its good that this is happening so they and other potential thieves know there could be serious repercussions. What i never hear about is what kinda time these people get or are facing any idea? Sounds like the BiB are getting pissed that these jackers are sticking there paws in the cookie jar. and drying up the tea money.

Sweet justice.

I was at Banglamung hospital on tuesday and as we were entering the front entrance, we saw an ambulance roll up being escorted by a police car. This guy was being taken out the back of an ambulance handcuffed and under police guard.

I wonder why people even wear chains and necklaces etc around around patts or bkk or even Patong. Seems to me all you are doing is advertising, here I am mug me next. We know these pricks are around, so don't give em a target.

I wear a gold chain and a few rings all the time in aus, but leave them home when going to LOS.

Another reason I don't show any bling in LOS is I don't want any prick to get the impression I may be loaded, which I'm not. they may just decide to follow you back to the hotel.

AGREE, but in this case the chain was worth only 10000 baht, so it was not a huge bling bling, just a small little gold chain most likely with cross on it.

I just think, because times are getting harder, and this kind of attacks were so easy to do with none or very little consequences that many younger Thai's decided to earn living this way. As cops in many country's say "Crime does not pay"

Keep in mind these bandid not only target tourists by Thai's also. My ex, lost her little gold chain same way, her sister also had the same

Take it from a life long New Yorker - escalating violence against thieves will only make them more aggressive. If getting chased by victims was the norm, then the criminals would simply start to shoot first, then rob. Crime is mostly a result of a lack of options. More option equals less crime. I lived in NYC when it wasn't safe to walk at night. The city got itself together and crime fell off a cliff. It wasn't by shooting criminals. It was through jobs and opportunity. Hopefully the same will be true some day in Patts.

I am all for corporal punishment and the death penalty. I think being shot and jail is proper punishment for this type crime. Death might be slightly extreme. As far as wearing jewelry it is a shame that it makes one a target.

The shooter had to be a good shot. I worry about bystanders.

The trouble with tipping the guards is they expect it all the time.

Does not anyone find it funny that the police have no clue who actually shot them?

Was it the volunteers or was it the paid police, or was it the Russian guy or was it someone standing by

How funny is that!?

One would think they(police) would want to know or run some tests to determine the shooter.

As long as Yaba is here it will not change.

The problem with NYC is only the criminals have guns, try this same shit in Texas, Florida or anywhere in the South were you can legally carry a handgun and you likely will end up like the story in the OP.

Arizona and Tennessee have or are about to approve carrying guns in bars and you got to love it.

Happy 4th of July and thanks to our Fathers with guns that gave us our independence.

I've always been allowed to open carry in bars, but not concealed, even with a permit.
