It even made world wide news: UK, French, USA, German and many other foreign national news. Wow... Another "hit" to Thailand's reputation... It does not seem the murderer is too concerned about HIS reputation! He is an ex Bhumjaithai member.
The killer went to talk to the chief executive of the Provincial administration (the victim) with a gun on him. Then he followed him to his car. Talked with him a bit more, while hiding the handgun in his back. Then showed his gun. Then he shot him. Four times.
The shooting was clearly caught on CCTV... After which the killer put back the gun in his belt area, and called in to a livestream news show, told the host what he had just done seconds earlier and why... Surrendered to the police, was allowed to hold a press conference (!!) at the police station.
All this supposedly over an 11 million baht "debt" (from the unclear explanations it sounds like a deeper type of debt/ rooted in "dealings"... ).

"Chalong said he and Thongchai had been friends for a long time and that he had helped him financially. He added that he had helped fund the election campaign of Thongchai’s candidate and decided not to contest the election himself.

The former MP said he was facing financial problems and needed money to cover his medical expenses. He said he had demanded the return of the 11 million baht he had lent Thongchai several years ago, but Thongchai refused, claiming that there was no debt to be settled.

Chalong said this was the last straw that drove him to shoot the mayor at his office."
