Pad Lay seafood on Soi Buakhao

Featured Replies

I'm starting a dedicated thread and linking to some posts which I completely missed reading.

We tried Pad Lay tonight.  It is on the side street off of soi buakhao, between Diana estate and Chill Inn.  How I missed this is beyond me.

It was delicious!  I had a kg of shrimp and crab kra pow.  Wife had a platter of everything.

She was surprised at the size of the mussels.

Beautiful shrimp.

I enjoyed it thoroughly, but I need to be honest that some of the shrimp and also the lobster weren't "fresh off the boat".

Still delicious.  We will do this again.

@PeterPL2 For a nice restaurant, I'd choose Pad Lay. However, prices are a few times higher than in other Pattaya places, and it's good only if it's a special occasion. I wouldn't take my "date" here for a first or second ST/LT, it would be very awkward.

@teasingfish Wanted my first pad thai of the trip, and looked up "Pad Lay" in treetown. Probably highest rated A/C mini-restaurant in the area, and a great place to sit and have a chat. Food was very mediocre though, and not deserving of near 5 star reviews on google

You are 100% correct.  That is where it belongs!

I requested a move ...

The value for price point is right, it is hard to beat for a proper seafood meal on that stretch of Buakhao. I'd add that going before 7pm makes a real difference, once the evening crowd hits service slows and the best items go fast.

Supposedly they are planning an expansion into a space next to them ... But I don't know if it is official or just their goal.  It is surprising how many people get turned away each night

That's good to hear. I struggled to get a seat a few times, Fortunately turnover seems to be pretty quick so when I asked if I could reserve a table if I came back in 30 minutes it was OK. Didn't seem like they had a formal reservation policy where you could reserve well in advance at that time. I thought the food was excellent and it was pretty much always completely full so an expansion is good news if they are able to keep the same standards.

Our name was on the board and a reserved placard was on our table.

I doubt they will take it more than a few days in advance, but for the next day was easy.

Thank you. Good to know for future reference.
