It’s so convenient that he had a photo of the watch in perfect detail to make it easy to receive the insurance reimbursement. (Didn’t have the guts to go the full LB story though)

Anyone with any sense takes a photo of all high items they have....U never made an Insurance claim?

I always kept the original receipt, and a scanned copy, of any high value items I owned. A photo of an item wouldn't be proof who owned the item.

For insurance  purposes, I wouldn’t have a picture of a “naked” Rolex. I would have a picture of it in the box with full papers and pictures of the serial numbers. That could be a $20 fake for all we know. At best it’s a cheesy flex photo. At worst, it’s a scam.

The clickbait title exaggerates somewhat.

The article says his watch is worth 700,000 baht. That's well short of "nearly 1 million baht."

My first reaction is lack of sympathy over a spoiled young dude who can afford to wear a $21,000 USD watch.

Admittedly, there's some jealousy too.

Myself, I scrape by with a Casio watch that costs less than $30 USD.

I rather like my watch.

It's lightweight and waterproof, so I can swim or shower with it.

It has an alarm that I use often, as reminder to retrieve my clothes from the laundry machine, or remind me to take my goddamn daily pills for my expanded prostate causing pissing problems that nearly all old men will experience if they live long enough.

It hardly feels like I'm wearing anything, which I much prefer over a heavy metal expensive watch.

About the dudes insurance claim, what if the insurance company asks to see the police report?

Will the company reimburse him, if it finds out that his watch was stolen by two hookers he invited to his hotel room? 🤣

Shouldn’t be rolling around town in a foreign country wearing an annual salary on your wrist. Common sense here people.

Didnt even know you could insure a watch.

Telling the insurance company you invited a lady you didn't know to your place and passed out drunk, would sort of nullify the insurance claim....

Drunk drivers don't get insurance pay outs for crashing their cars as their are exclusions in policies for illegal acts and intoxication

Cities like Pattaya or Medellin are not for the rich; hide your million-dollar watch up your ass if you want to have a good vacation and not have any problems.

If I had a million-dollar watch, I would surely have the means to sleep with models in Monaco or Hong Kong, or porn actress in Miami or Dubai.

Knowing how to choose your holiday destination is quite an art.

Now the baby is crying and he will be going back to Finland earlier because he is very sad and can no longer have fun.

It’s a million baht. Closer to $30K USD. So, small baller really.

There really aren’t any million dollar production Rolex watches. Some cost that much but they are rare or owned by someone famous. I think the Paul Newman Rolex went for like $17M. But you can by that model for far less than $1M.

A picture isn't sufficient for insurance purposes.  An appraisal by a member of the National Association Of Jewelry Appraisers is required for any reputable insurance company to insure a valuable piece of jewelry.

I Denmark where i am from, my Rolex (Hulk) is insured...
when i did i have to send pictures of box and certificates and received from the shop where i did buy it...
if it get stolen it will be hard to sell on normal market because the number will be on the stolen list worldwide...
i will also point out that if i travel with it, and it get stolen i will only get 10% of it value...
so i will never take it with me on holiday.

that i why i have a copy bought from Jacks shop

The owner of that particular watch didn’t pay anything for it. He received as a gift while dating Paul Newmans daughter and and staying at the family’s vacation home.  Apparently he didn’t even wear often because he found a different Rolex while out and about one day.

Get to hang out with Steve McQueen, bang his daughter and also, get a rolex watch as a gift to boot that makes him a multi-millionaire. Think this guy had a little run of good fortune!

So much exaggeration going on.
If the picture of a black dial Rolex watch is the watch in question it's got an MSRP ~$8k USD which is ~1/4 of "1 MILLION baht". NO question still a lot of $, but not at the level of drama implied.

While I’ve never tried it, I’ve a hard time believing having a watch shoved up someone’s ass is going to be problem free and lend to an enjoyable vacation.

Perhaps you’ve experience that suggests otherwise?

Now, leaving expensive items home when traveling to places such as Pattaya is a prudent move, particularly if it’s something not easily replaced.

This is fascinating,

You have a very valuable watch, but do not wear it because of it's value, so instead you wear something that looks like the valuable watch?

Knowing that the valuable one is safe, why bother wearing the less valuable version? Is it simply about the way it looks? Why is it so valuable? My watch measures my steps, heart and some other random things, it wasn't cheap for me to buy, but it's also not very fancy.

I presume the ladies notice your watch and that's what makes it worth wearing?

I Copenhagen where i live, was there few years back, a lot of watch street rubbery from Eastern European people hold men up when going home from night out with friends...
then i deside to buy a fake one, and was also at the time curious about how good the best fake would be, compared to my real one.
When not on Holiday I use my real Rolex daily and when traveling i just use the fake on, because if i not have a watch on my wrist, it feels something is missing.
wearing my Rolex daily is now just a part of me, and with my fake one, i can still when traveling...
in Thailand I don't think any women care about your watch
