IME   Bangkok  taxis  stopped ripping off tourists  about 10 years ago . All on meter now . Pattaya taxi , well that's another story

Agreed.  Are there are so many taxis there that it’s quite easy to move to the next one.  Metered fare to lower sukhumvit should be in the 350-450b range; a bit cheaper if coming at an off hour and elect to skip the tollway. I vaguely recall an increase in the airport fee, but not sure.

No need; but all-in price, including tolls, shouldn’t be more than 500b.

EVA usually land about 3.30pm so it will likely be 4.30 or later by the time you leave the airport. You can expect a slow journey at that time of day so it will cost more. Though most traffic will be heading out of the city.As long as the taxi uses a meter it won’t be horrendously expensive.

500b seems like a steal, no?

I have been looking around other options (Nams taxi for example) for going from the airport to sukhumvit and came to the conclusion that the price would be in the 1200 - 1500 range.

Had me thinking about looking for public transport options, but 500 seems like a nice price.

hi I,m not overly worried about the cost , its just the feeling of being taken advantage of . but as I land at 330 pm traffic would probably be quite slow . I expect to pay about 500 to 600 I expect .

Another option if you don’t want the hassle of the taxi queue and don’t mind paying is to book one of the companies operating from the airport.

I’ve used these:

 https://limousine.in.th/index.php#transferrates

for fast track and taxi to Pattaya. An SUV would cost 999 baht to Sukhumvit.

I always paid around this with meter. You get a ticket with a reference to the car, and if the driver doesn't want to use the meter or try to flee you in other ways you can report it. My last time I think it was 50 for the airport fee which he asked for right away plus the toll road fee, but the total was still only 430.

Nams list it as 800 in a large sedan (no listed price for S and M cars).

That sounds more like the price to Pattaya.

Train from BKK basement level into Makkasan station in city costs about 40 bahts (fast, frequent service, do not bother about timetable) and then a taxi less than 100 bahts to hotel in Sukhumvit area. Say 150 bahts all-up.

Not a good idea . OP did say 2 people have 4 suitcases luggage  so you are recommending  a struggle into town . Always good to read thread first ,

I did this trip a week ago but to Phaya Thai. I had a backpack and a carry-on bag and I wouldn't do it with more or/and bigger luggage. Just too inconvenient.

1 or 2 years ago, the "meter" taxis gave us some problems when we turned up with 4 suitcases. Not great to be standing there in the heat trying to deal with all this. Luckily a lady driver took us in the end.

I just booked avan on Klook for the return trip to the airport.

Agreed, particularly if one transfers to the BTS which is where baggage becomes very inconvenient.

I used Nam when i went from the airport to bkk although i think it depends a little on flight timing and driver availability as to whether she can accommodate you. 800 baht if i recall correctly. With 2 adults and 4 suitcases i probably wouldn't want to be using the airport taxi. On the reverse journey i used Grab which was around 500 baht all in if my memory is correct although the journey back was in rush hour
