I think I saw a dentist advertising it for 4000B in the new shopping centre, the Central Festival on beach road. I'm not sure what floor it's on but it's up on one of the higher levels.

Yes I had it done a couple of years ago.

My dentist charges £800 for the laser whitening whereas I got it done for £90 in LOS. I think it has gotten even cheaper since.

I would recommend that you pay the extra cash to get the teeth moulds and whitening gel kit to take home.

Once you have had your teeth whitened, you will notice them start to discolour again. Normally after about 6 months you notice this.

Also, don't expect pure white results. It all depends on the composite of your tooth. They say result are anything from 1-5 shades will be achieved. Mines went down 3 shades with a one hour session. They went down a further shade with using the home kit.

Also, after the laser treatment, you may experience shooting nerve pains in your teeth roots. This only lasts for about 24 hours though.

Yes, I would recommend it. Its great to get a quick change of shades and then a little maintenance thereafter.

I buy the gels from traders on eBay now. Never had any probs and a fraction of the price.

I probably use the gel at home about every 4-5 months. When I do use it, I will use it every day for about 5 days and thats enough for a few months. It depends on your diet though. If you drink a lot of coffee/red wine/cola drinks etc you may need use the gels more frequently.

Another vote fot the home whitening procedure. Go to the dentist and they'll take an impression of your teeth; the mould will be made overnight. I'd just buy the 4-pack gel kit which will whiten your teeth considerably. Buy refills subsequently online. You'll need to sleep with the soft mould in overnight. It's a bit like a soft mouthguard. Laser whitening will give you a headstart on the whitening process - but only that. If you intend doing the home whitening (which I highly recommend) then there's no need to do the laser whitening. You'll achieve at home in 3-4 days what the laser whitening would. Of course, YMMV.

Chilled, neither shaken or stirred.

Absolutely right, i also prefer the homekit. Homewhitening is also very good for sensitive teeth as its doin the process slower than laser whitening. You can buy a kit and enough refillm in Thailand till you do your next trip. Never had problems with coustoms when i had that stuff with me. Okay guess 100 gel packs will cause problems but having 10 gel packs with me i didnt have problems at all. Usually i hit Thailand every few month and have no problems to refill at all. If the stuff gets empty i simple ask arround my friends who travel also like 3-4 times a year to LOS, to bring me some of the gel. Works superb. Personally i think homewhitening is better than the kickstart with the laser, as i have extremly sensitive teeth.

I had the laser whitening + home kit about five years ago and it brought my teeth up three shades. It was awesome. But I am down at least a shade, maybe two now. Therefore, maybe I should look into this during my LOS trip.

But I don't want to go to someone who doesn't know what they are doing. They can damage your gums.

I went on my last trip with the intention of getting both laser and home treatments. However after talking with several dentists, I realised that laser treatment wasn't necessary - it would only give me a headstart. I could achieve better results with home whitening. It just may take a little longer e.g. 3-5 days to get my teeth up to the colour of a laser treatment; home treatments subsequently only improved the whitening to my desired level - and I'd save several thousand baht.

Making the mould for your teeth is very simple - same as getting a mouthguard. They'll just take an impression so that your tray "fits" your teeth perfectly and is not obtrusive when you sleep. The first night I used the tray it did feel unusual; thereafter I've never noticed it. I used the Opalesence tooth whitening gel and have been pleased with the results.

Total cost for tray and 4-gel pack was around 5,000Baht IIRC. As noted, refills can be subsequently bought online.

As mentioned, I was in Phuket and can recommend dentists in Phuket (don't know about Pattaya). Anyway, 3 excellent choices in Phuket:

1. Dental Sea Clinic - www.dentalsea.com - near Patong Beach

2. Phuket Dental Centre - www.phuketdentalcenter.com - one clinic is next to Bangkok Phuket hospital; the other in Nai Harn

3. Bangkok Phuket Hospital - www.phukethospital.com - in Phuket Town

There is nothing wrong with other clinics near the tourist areas e.g. such as Promjab and Sea Smile. However their higher costs for rent etc are reflected in the higher prices they charge. I believe you can get equally good treatment at the above at lower prices. Hope this helps.

Thanks, probably will be in Phuket as well

If you're staying near Patong Beach then I'd go to dentist number 1. The owner of that clinic not only has a DDS (obviously to be licensed as a dentist) but also a PhD from a prestigous Japanese university in her speciality (gum disease). If you're staying near Kata/ Nai Harn then I'd go to dentist number 2's Nai Harn clinic; if staying around Phuket Town then I'd go to their clinic directly next to the hospital's entrance. The owner of that clinic is a great guy and has travelled to Australia before representing Thai dentists. Both clinics offer a free general dental health consultation so I'd get that done too (in case you need fillings etc).

The Bangkok Phuket hospital is also reasonably priced - cheaper than several dentists located in the tourist areas near Bangla road/ Patong beachfront etc.

Of course for peace of mind, I'd also recommend once you get a quote, to call other dentists around Phuket to confirm the prices are good. Whether you have work done in Patts or Phuket, I'm sure other members would appreciate a mini-trip report on your experiences. Good luck.

This caught me by surprise - lasted about 36 hours and ruined my last two days in LOS - caused by dehydration of your teeth as strange as it sounds.

But I had a moviestar smile.

Also remember you should avoid dark foods for a week to maintain the full white effect (dark beer, red wine, dark curries and sauces, certain dark colored fruits etc...)

Home kits since do a good job but not as brillant white as the laser treatment

I respectfully disagree. Home treatments will get your teeth whiter than any laser procedure (Zoom, Cold Light etc etc). It simply takes more time - ask any dentist. However laser treament takes 1 hour - compared to 3-5 days of home treatment to get your teeth to a comparable whiteness. After that, just keep using the home whitening until you're happy with the colour.

Personally I don't like the "hollywood" total bright-white smile as it simply looks fake (e.g. Johnny Depp in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). I prefer one or two shades below this "brilliant" white; looks both healthy and natural.

I was at the "Dentist @ Beach" dental clinic on 4th floor Central Festival today, they did an exam of my teeth then fixed the ones with holes and finished with making a mold of my teeth(upper and lower).

I liked the place, the male dentist`s English was ok and it felt professional and safe.

Exam and fix 2 large holes and 5 smaller ones = 3500Bath and the Mold + 2 gel is 4500Baht and you can buy extra gels for 500 each. They told me i can pick up the mold tomorrow so about 24 hrs wait for it to be done.

Their phonenumber is 038-043331 and are open 11.00-21.30 daily, email: [email protected]
