Replacement Tax/Reg Thingie

Recommended Posts

Posted

I recently bought a used motorcycle from a dealer in Rayong who provided green book and that little tax/reg thing in a tube.  I mounted it on the bike but somehow the tube fell off the bike while riding.  What is that thingie and how do I go about replacing it?  I live in Jomtien

In my experience, I found a direct correlation between batshit crazy and fantastic sex.  The nuttier, the sluttier.

It's called a tax certificate and as I suspected, AI Bob states your first step is to obtain a police report.

Before I would make a trip out to the DLT office I would first check with one of the annual renewal places, the shops with the gear symbol on the sign to see if they can handle the replacement.

AI Bob also had an excellent suggestion I hadn't thought of, that is keep a color photo copy of the original in the tube and the original copy locked away safely under the seat.

*** UPDATE ***  I followed this advice and it worked FANTASTIC.  Brought my docs to the police station and for a mere 25 baht (or was it 20?) they did my report on the spot, stamped and delivered in-hand.

I took the police report and docs to the Chonburi DLT office and, I gotta' tell you, the experience was excellent....

My FIRST RULE when dealing with government offices: Get there when they first open.  This makes your wait shorter, and the people there have had their breakfast and coffee and morning coffee poop and have not had some asshat ruin their day yet.

Chonburi DLT office has a seperate line for 'FOREIGNERS' (there is a sign at the initial outdoor reception station).  You'll see a long line of Thai people.  I got in that line and was pulled out by a guy who moved me over to the short foreigner line.

I blazed through the DLT office in about 30 minutes total time with a brand new tax certificate in-hand for a mere 25 baht, and everyone in the process was super helpful and easy to work with.  I speak no Thai and did not need language assistance beyond a little Google Translate for the intial telling them why I was there.

Thank you!!!
