just some banter.. i dont understand why u see young white tourist women walking around pattaya.. there are some kinky women but im not talking about them im talking the type u know dont come to pattaya for sex...  what do you think makes them flock here... to hang out on soi bakauo and the clubs.. i cant think of any reason what goes through their minds..  its the whole turn pattaya into a family city as well.. pattaya is amazing as a sin city..  but as a beach city that wasnt what it is i would never come here.. the beach isnt anything to write about ... i get the russian girls i guess  but im talking uk,austrailian,usa girls ...

Speaking as someone who has been visiting Pattaya since the 1980s, there has always been families, and there will always be families visiting.

No amount of wishful thinking will change this.

The majority, surely?

If the beach is not the most important thing for a vacation Pattaya has a lot to offer for young tourists:
Cheap accommodation
Plenty of restaurant selection in all price classes
Great night clubs
Plenty of bars to hang out as long as you don't get offended by seeing bar girls
Island excursion nearby
And normal tourist attractions

Since they are in Thailand, they taking the opportunity to see the notable places. It seeing and understanding culture. These are the type of people that turn out better as they are prepared to engage and be better informed.

Most people don't go to Pattaya for that

We see a lot of them in Jomtien.  Some come to Thailand alone or with other girlfriends to "find themselves" and see Jomtien as a safe place that's cheap and isn't as hardcore as some of the other tourist areas.  

Most are with families, Russian and European tourists that don't know or don't care about the reputation that Pattaya has.

I do see a lot of sad guys that are dragging their fat ass wives around to show them it's not as bad as the media and their friends make out, so it's safe to let him come back with his mates to play golf a few times a year.

I'd like to add that in Pattaya it's so easy and so cheap to transport yourself.

I do..  plenty of better beaches .. with a less seedy rep.. you tell a co worker i went to krabi,patong,,phi phi, koi samui they think different..pattaya is a knockin shack by the beach..  go down south to phukey where u get hospitality atleast,  

My guess is that they see it listed as a popular Thailand tourist destination and decide to try it out. Many are probably oblivious to anything else.

Mrs Keepitfun enjoys patts.  Good food, good easy listening live music, easy transport, great walking along the beach, safe, good day trips, nice hotels… why not.  The op appears to have a very narrow lense.

While I’m in agreement that pattaya beach is a lousy beach, have you thought for a moment that other places maybe not be within reach, either financially or timing, for others?  It’s extremely convenient for the Bangkok crowd and for those working in the industrial areas surrounding Bangkok …. but you wouldn’t know that because you clearly know shit all about Thailand.

And while there is a large density of working girls in Pattaya, to claim “the whole cities is working girls” is ignorant nonsense. Go ahead, start asking a statistically relevant number of pharmacists, nurses, teachers, policewomen, etc how much they want for ST or LT?   Let us know how you get on with that task …

As to why white girls in their 20s go to Pattaya, I don’t know nor do I care.  If you’re so curious then try asking some of them and perhaps learn something rather than making ridiculous assumptions.

Okay, but why Pattaya? If you're coming to Thailand for reasons other than carnal, I can think of 20 locations more nice than shitty Pattaya.

Exactly. Without regular tourist the city economy would crumble in no time. There is plenty to see and do that has nothing to do with girlie bars. A family on Holliday spends loads more money than a regular single man on a party trip. Trust me I’ve tried both. It’s not even close. 
pattaya is great.  clubs, sightseeing and a huge selection of restaurants with food from all over the world. Not to mention a plethora of hotels fitting all budgets. Close to Bangkok airport and the islands. It’s a convenient location on the map.

Yet there are plenty of punters who believe their contribution to the Thai economy keeps it afloat; without them the showboat would sink. 

A (white, European) female friend of mine likes Pattaya holidays very much.  You may hate the beach - she likes it - lots of space, warm sea etc.  Shopping both in malls and from street traders.  Lively bars.  Live music.  Good food. Everyone smiling, everyone happy.  She knows the guys are off fucking the bar girls but that does not bother her (or titillate her).  Oh and she like the massages.  And the pedicure.  Net: Lively, Happy, Fun, Sun.  What is not to like?

I don't see that many. More than none, but it doesn't seem overly popular. Anyway, it's a resort town in SEA with a great party scene and affordable prices, lots of great hotels, and it’s safe, walkable, and close to a giant airport, etc. Maybe they're priced out of Phuket or want to pair it with some Bangkok shopping. There are loads everywhere.

Young, old, in groups, on their own, with a man, with kids.

Walk around during the day and you will notice them.

Probably depends where you stay also, I stayed in many different hotels, some places you wont see them at all, in the more touristy places is where you will see them, not so many around soi buakhao area, lots on and near walking street, along the beach, near and inside the malls.

If you spend most of your time on soi 6, or soi honey especially you wont see too many, but walking street and soi 6 are tourist attractions, I've seen people take their kids through there, maybe to just have a look, just passing through, or maybe they didn't know (!), and there's the pier at the end of walking street many people will go that way for that I suppose.

I keep telling people, including women I know, to come to pattaya and that it's really nice but they seem hesitant, I think that they've seen the youtube videos, various documentaries, sensationalist newspaper articles, and so they seem to look down on the place. It's such a shame, people put it down but I think it's really nice there, I haven't travelled to many beaches around the world and I'm not interested in going into the sea, I just like knowing that it's there and walking beside it, specially at sunset.

I think that the people that go there are there because it's a great place.
