Anyone use 'Trazodone' 25mg for sleep?

Featured Replies

Is this effective as a sleep aid? Is it better than taking low dosage first generation antihistamines as a sleep aid?  Is it available in Thailand?

I have been using it for several years now. My dosage is 300 mg.  It replaced my prior sleep aid which was restoril as Trazodone is not addictive.  I was able to achieve the same results

Looking for something temporary to sleep on flights, whilst in Pattaya as well because I find myself not being able to rest at available times then too tired to perform at times. Don't want to be hooked on anything

I used it years ago but no longer, never had any issues with it.  I was on ambian for a few years, its a drug and was taken off it and I'm glad.

My doctor recommended Melatonin as its all natural and not a drug.  It doesn't keep you asleep, it helps you fall sleep.  It works great for me, and have used it on flights before, the long leg haha.  Others I've heard it doesn't work.

Its worth a try Melatonin, get it before you depart home.  Its ridiculously expensive in Thailand, very inexpensive at home.

Trazodone actually works pretty well for sleep for a lot of people, especially at the low doses like 25–50 mg. It’s not addictive and doesn’t knock you out like Z-drugs (zolpidem etc.), but it does make you drowsy and helps you stay asleep.Compared to antihistamines (like diphenhydramine/doxylamine), trazodone is usually less groggy the next morning and doesn’t dry you out as much. Antihistamines work too, but they can leave you feeling heavy the next day.As for Thailand yeah, it’s available, but it’s a prescription med, so you’d need to see a doctor/pharmacy clinic to get it. Not something you can just buy over the counter like melatonin.

If you’re trying it for the first time, start low because even 25 mg can make some people pretty sleepy.

Been using 10mg time released melatonin which helps me fall and stay asleep until I have to get up to pee.

Thanks for the info.  I went to Facino pharmacy and was able to buy a strip of 10.  They are 50mg so I broke it in half for 25mg and then cut off a small piece to get about 17-20mg. It did dry me out but not as much as the antihistamines. The good part is it has a short half life so most of it is gone in the morning.

I have found LeoX8 quite effective.

I may have to try this on my next long flight. I've tried 5mg melatonin and it didn't really do anything for me. I generally don't have trouble falling asleep on planes, but I usually wake up in 2-3 hours.

To get the pieces you used a pill cutter?

I'm thinking of experimenting with minimal dose of marijuana gummies as a relaxation/sleep aid. Probably cut a gummy down to size to be about 5mg. One quarter of a 25mg gummy is near enough.

Pill cutter is cheap and cuts without mess. shopping?q=tbn:ANd9GcTc--APoItN_5BqxVfLfa-CHzj00-MIKnFhj2-a70HcjZ7yvyPwjofR9P6sH1GA9xRqbU1pOhPJ3vlAHf5OiCzPOGyurmczv2M3H2y0TBndi4PrDcnTMGk3dy_OEOBgxSIbhZONk3Hg-9U&usqp=CAc                                                I use one to cut 20mg Apcalis tablet down to 5mg, my usual daily ED dose in Thailand.

No, I didn't. I do have a pill cutter but the 50mg tablets are scored so it is easy to break in half, giving you 25mg. Being I wanted a little less than 20mg I just cut off a small piece, using a scissors.  It's not exact but it doesn't really matter that much as far as effects.

I take Indometacin and Zolpeden both great until you need the loo

Trazodone is a helpful sleep aid. I highly recommend small doses at first, as it can cause grogginess. Most effective dose for me is within the 50-100mg range pending how tired I am.

Thank you for the suggestion. I use Melatonin (3mg or 5mg) to sleep at home on an occasional basis. That works if I am not too stressed.  I was using Zolpidem only for the extra long trans ocean flights but it has become harder to get. ( I still have some as I only use 3 or 4 pills...i cut them in half) a year but I will try Trazodone when I am next in Thailand.

it works for me. I take one pill about an hour before I want to sleep and another one just before I go to bed so I stay asleep.

I pills I bought here in Pattaya are 50mg.  Are you taking 2 of the 50mg pills? Do you get a dry mouth?

I have recently started with this and have been taking about 20mg and it doesn't do much. If I have a beer with it then it works a little better. I know it is not recommended.  I guess I am more used to a knock-out effect. Maybe I will try a higher dosage.

Do you get a knock-out effect?  How about in the mornings, are you groggy for a while?  Do you get a dry mouth while sleeping?

Do you use any alcohol with them?  I know it is not recommended.

It just makes me sleepy, but doesn't knock me out. I'm not groggy in the morning, but I get plenty of sleep, so there isn't a lot in my system when I wake up. Yes I get dry mouth, but it mild. No, I don't use alcohol with it.

I would talk to your doctor about a dosage increase. You can go pretty high on it. One of the BMs further up the thread is on 300mg. I'm on 200mg. The right dosage depends on the person.
