No helmets, fast bike and 2 bodies with blood over the road..... 

I really feel sorry for the first responders here, it's many times per day, it has to take a toll on them mentally...

Mate I have been told only those who die at the scene get counted in the road toll.... It's horrendous at best.... 

That location has had a number of bike crashes. It's fairly quite area and wide road. While the road is good it does has a few potholes. It not a severe corner, (ie. you could comfortably take it at 140k+ on a sports bike)

So perhaps alchocol and or inexperience is a contributing factor for accidents.

It's a real tragedy young lives being lost.

Yeah people do it, but who needs to be going that fast on 2nd Rd on any bike! I guess big bike go fast! I see it even here on Jomtien Beach Rd!

 

I've rode that stretch of 2nd Rd countless times and no where near that speed! For what?

 

The guy was from Belize and lived here. He is on FB and FB earlier had videos and pictures of the aftermath. I have seen him around before but never met!

Hopefully this reminds others to slow down and stay careful out there. Always been tempted to take a bike and ride in Pats, I guess i won’t be after reading this

I've recently started driving in Pattaya having bought a car.  The Thais are incredibly polite and generally careful on the roads barring the odd exception, as I have got used to their different protocols I have started to enjoy driving here. 

The biggest problem is farangs on motorcycles behaving like they are invincible.  Every time I go out there is some farang idiot on a motorbike overtaking on a bend or undertaking when there is something merging on the left.  They need to review the rules on how foreigners get license t drive motorbikes/scooters here

Unfortunately while there are a fair number of non-Thais riding stupid the bigger problem are the Thais riding like they're invincible.

It's just amazing how many times I've been out and about either walking or riding and see a Thai pull out from a side soi without even looking. The Thais also make up the majority riding at unsafe speeds on congested sois and in weather that sane riders would dial back their speed.

That is something I see and encounter often when riding my bike. Just happened today person coming out of Rompho Market making a left and didn't even look right before pulling out.

Your assuming they have a license!

Driving fair distances daily on some of the most dangerous roads [Jomtien 2nd, 3rd rd, Thrappaya, Threppasit,  Sukhomvit etc] I can only echo that. The [farang] idiots driving high powered bike without any consideration for other traffic and speed limits often wearing shorts and flip flops only [wonder if all the shirtless are infact gay ?] is simply mind blowing. With high season just around the corner, I may finally get the chance to eyeball one of this idiot on his his last breath after a crash.... with a raised  middle finger to his face!

There's a youtube channel called bad driving Asia. Most of the content is from Thailand and scooter accidents.

Just about every third example is showing a Thai driving flat out through an intersection without looking or slowing down and getting wiped out. It's mind boggling stupidiy!!

I live on beach Rd Jomtien and  I see this every day. Guys doing high speeds and wheelies in high pedestrian areas. It's only a matter of time before someone gets knocked over.

I believe it's particularly bad in soi 5 Pratumnak as some of the businesses owners there were getting together to try and lobby the local government and police for enforcement.

Aussies and Kiwis are familiar with wide roads on a bend with little or no traffic as these are common just outside the main cities. Those riding all the time in tight congested city roads tend to misjudge a wide empty bend and carry on with the same speed and overrun the bend. 

We have this problem back home with young Asian tourists on hired vehicles going off-road at these bends when there is no traffic. 

I noticed that this accident took place early in the morning and the road was empty as no one saw the accident.

It is 9906 now. So that is 46 more since my post yesterday. 

I know in Canada that if someone dies within 30 days of being involved in a vehicle collision, even from a heart attack, it is counted as a vehicle death. 

And yes, it is my understanding as well that only dead at the scene counts. ChatGPT says that some data is "deaths within 24 hours of the crash".

I live on Phratamnak and walk almost every afternoon on soi 4 & 5 and see  idiots driving reckless almost daily. Combined with traffic crossing from the side sois, Russians that don't know how to use a sidewalk and the number of potholes accident will [and has] happened. If only they would ban all tourist from renting bikes abo 125cc problem would be significant reduced in residential areas.

It probably would have no effect. Many of them have no bike license anyway. The real solution is to confiscate the rental bikes and prosecute the hire companies. Never gonna happen of course.

A significant number of Thais (especially in rural areas) don't have a licence either.  When I bought my bike about two years ago, I got my GF (now wife) to go with me to the dealer (on my rented bike) ... so we could each ride a bike back to our condo.    She was a bit cautious about our route. I wondered why, then realised she was just being careful of possible police stops.  She didn't have a license, but had been driving for well over 30 years.

She has both car and bike license now - I made her get them immediately.

The reason for her lack of license is simple. A licence is an extra cost ... and for people who are extremely poor, a far lower priority than eating (and drinking). 

Sue grew up as one of 7 children .. in a village with dirt roads, no power, no town water ... and lived with her parents in a tiny timber shack (which her sister still owns.. but extended and modernised).... and until her late teens, frequently had times of serious hunger.

If that was your life, meeting a bureaucracy demand is a very low priority. For Sue and many others, survival is unshakably top of your list and it stays front and centre of you thinking for all your life.

A while back, my Bolt driver was taking me to my hotel using back roads (either I was coming from my Ex's parents house or traffic was backed up).  We were approaching a curve in the road, when a young Thai guy (probably late teens) came flying around it from the other direction and slammed into the front panel of her car.

He was 110% at fault, and was pretty lucky (a) that it wasn't worse for him (appeared to be uninjured) and (b) that she was so laid back about it.  He put a decent dent in her car, but she just shrugged it off.

Motorbike+speed=recipe for accidents.

This is very true - always best to have your own insurance, as no licence=no insurance, so you'll have practically no chance of compensation from them because of an accident.

Mate regardless of the CCs, they are still able to go too fast for the situations they are in.... 

The easiest solution (and I hate to say this) is regular speed bumps.

Any vehicle + inappropriate speed can be a recipe for accidents. Add in Alcohol, Fatigue, Mobile Phones etc etc and then you have the perfect recipe....
