Shocking News.

Annoys me, when I see shit like this reported as an accident.

Very sad news indeed. RIP Barry.

Unfortunately there's very little that will be done to address the root cause of his death.  This kind of tragedy has always been on the cards, but it's still a shock to see it transpire like this.

Anyone know where on Thappraya, this took place?

I often, have a few beers with friends in Fraser's, then try and cross Thappraya, to catch a baht bus back into Pattaya.

I do it, because I have always done it, but it has been pointed out to me, that there really is no need nowadays with Grab, Bolt etc.

I believe a farang on a motorcycle lost control and ran into him.

I live in the area and see so many irresponsible dickheads on motor bikes speeding, running red lights, doing wheelies and general reckless riding.

That's the way I read it in the news ,  I read the other posters comment as maybe something nefarious happened.

It's just how I am used to road deaths being reported in the UK nowadays, which is not to call them accidents, as that implies, that it is not preventable, and no one is to blame, it is just chance.

For once, with a Pattaya based article, they have not used it as an excuse to go off at a tangent to describe other aspects of the town the tabloids normally favour

Sad news as Barry was a very helpful chap to me & others when was living there yrs ago as he helped out with volunteers at the immigration dept in soi 5 Jomtien. 
 

He shud be happily retired n enjoying life there at his age.

Another needless death from a motorbike incident…as don’t believe an honest accident as so many idiots driving around there….thai & farang aswell as Arabs…speeding…reckless and prob no helmets worn…taking out an innocent bystander…

Hope the culprit is arrested and jailed.

According to news articles, Barry Kenyon was 84 years old.

At that age, unless he's unusually spry, in my opinion it's very hazardous to cross a busy Pattaya highway.

It could be that Barry was naturally walking very slowly, and had not reached the median strip when the speeding motorcycle hit him. 

At my age (turning 73 next month), I can't see myself living in Pattaya over age 80 -- if I live that long, or even want to live. 😔

Yes, there's that.

However, I find that continual death awareness to be the best way to remind oneself to live more fully.

Spiritual teachings say this also. 

But of course it's not easy to practice this mindset.

I still waste way too much of my precious dwindling time left on this planet by doing useless meaningless things like reading PA right now and posting trivial ego-driven shit. 🤪

Breathalysed him, but being Bangladeshi, not a drinker.

Checking CCTV footage, but I doubt anything will come of it.

How else would you report them?

Unless he was specifically targeted, it's a traffic accident, regardless of where it falls between the "completely random and unforeseeable" and "criminally reckless" extremes. 

If the perp is convicted for recklessness or manslaughter, then it can be reported as such, but that happens only a few months down the line.

The thing is very few wait for the green light, most will take off as the timer starts up as long as there is no traffic coming from the other directions.

This is dangerous for pedestrians as the rider is distracted looking out for oncoming cars.

I had some good conversations with Barry over the years.  He was very helpful to British subjects who were in genuine need of assistance.  I know of one case when he  made it possible for a man in his 80s who suffered from dementia to return to the U.K.  The man had been doing O.K. in Thailand as long as he had his wife to take care of him, but when she suddenly passed away, he had no one to help him.
